Just curious what the justification is for a 20% increase?

Since there are different versions of the $15 plan, is it all $15 plans or just some?

Will there be any improvements to the $18 plan?

I will have to cancel a PM account as I just cannot afford it.

And what happened to the CTRC mandated $15 plan? Is it from Koodo, Telus or PM?

The new $15/$18 plan.

I have a family of 4 as well on the plan but can not seem to find something cheaper. They are now offering $18 a month for 1GB of data and unlimited calling.

I went ahead and changed my subscription for 1 GB of data and unlimited minutes for the same price.

hi @CliffordLee you read that wrong

 that is specifically for Bell, Telus , Rogers and SaskTel only and not any other carriers. So, PM has no obligation to provide the $14 plans.  And none of those Tier 3 carrier owner by the Big 3 provides $15 plan anymore and they are all legal to not provide that plan

@CliffordLee  Some threads yesterday mentioned that CRTC regulations are limited to Bell, Roger’s, Telus and Sasktel.  All subsidiaries beneath are not legally bound to the same $15. Also noted was that the $15 had to belong to postpaid carriers, where PM is prepaid giving further immunity. If you have an $18 plan in your subscriptions to choose from now, do so with a change on renewal to at least get the extra Data before they arbitrarily swap you to an $18 with minimal data.  Best of luck

In 2021, CRTC mandated that all service providers to provide $15 base plan to its customers.

A SMS was sent to me on Sep.25, informing me that my current $15 plan will be increased to $18 on Oct.30. I would like to opt to remain at the $15 base plan. Public Mobile's website/app does not provide such option.

A formal complaint had been lodged to CRTC on this, since I am not able to find a solution nor support from Public Mobile's 'Customer Service'.

My family of four may consider options to switch away from Public Mobile as this brand no longer keeps its core values.

I got this too.  I got 3 extra referrals this year, but I think i need to find other way to earn more rewards now.

@fixin1

that was old story, too old.

The two more recent "incidents", both failed.  And sadly, both organizers eventually "left" us (although they are still around, one with different username and one still "helping" members via private messages )

Yes agree! 👍 Unfortunately I missed getting that $15. plan with the extra international minutes, so no loss for me there.  And looking forward to not monitoring my outgoing calls and having to remember to turn my data off when not needing it. 😉

hi @Eister

yes, the $18 - 1GB has more data.  Only consideration is if you have the new $15 plan with 500Mb, it has 100 international mintues for calling couple countries, around 8 , you will lose that if you go with the $18-1GB.  But I think the extra data with the new $18 plan is worth more, afterall, the list to call is small, and you can always use different apps to make calls

I was confused too!  But after reading everyone’s helpful advice, I think it’s double the data to 1 gb and instead of 100 Canada talk min. it’s unlimited minutes.  And advice is to upgrade at renewal date, or you stay with the original $15. plan, but pay $18.  Better choice is to bite the bullet and upgrade yourself. 😉

@hTideGnow - Maybe if we go riot enough we may put Public mobile back into their hiding spot, just like 2018. You could sue for deceptive marketing as they've marketed that they don't price hike.

You will need to manually select another plan (ie. $18). It is recommended to change plan at next renewal (instead of immediately since PM does not offer partial refunds).

You will keep the Christmas bonus if you change plans.

hi @Yummy

yes, I posted that comparison earlier

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Get-Support/New-plan-alert-for-Existing-subscribers-e...

it is not unheard of having 2 "same" plan with different prices

many carriers, not just PM do that.  In fact, many business do that.  This is to bold out the one that they want to promote, show every one that it is a discounted plans

No they are not allowed, They should offer a plan at 15$, it is a rule set by CRTC. I think everyone should complain at CRTC. Koodo do the same thing to me one year ago, but if you check on their website the 15$ plan still exist. They just hike the price for all the actual customer, but let new customer go with the 15$ plan and will hike them a year later to 18$. It's not legit and will complain to CRTC

HI @zoliver6

Yes, they are allowed.

They are following the rules if you read it carefully again.

https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/phone/mobile/occa.htm

the guideline is for Bell, Rogers, Telus and SaskTel only, not for other carriers

Some good community members tried the route to complains when there was the $3 hike for $10 plan.  Sadly they came back empty handed

There is no requirement for Public Mobile to offer a $15 plan.

So PM is comfortable just doing direct price increases now, forget cutting rewards or adding 911 fees. It seems at this point no price is safe.

Thanks, that is exactly what I am doing on my next billing cycle. gotta use up some free addons.

I hear your pain! Me too! Sadly, it appears that CRTC protections don't cover this kind of slow strangulation:

https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/phone/mobile/code.htm

And, given the increasing monopolization of the mobile market, we don't have much choice.

First world problems!

@slusagm wrote:

Yes, for those with referrals, PM could still be a better place

Referrals are no longer all that valuable.  Referrals are extremely volatile and you can likely expect about 20% to 30% to be gone within a year.  This is based on personal experience between a few accounts that I have looked in.

I don't expect you will lose the Xmas bonuses, those were not part of your plan and are treated independently.

hi @Eister

no worries, you are safe, the xmas bonuses will stay , wont be affected

@RavingRaven

that footnote 3, all providers has that, nothing new and it is not PM being mean or what

hi @SeniorCitizen  and all

yes, the new $18 does not have

  • 100 monthly long-distance mins to China, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Taiwan, and the UK³

So, it will be a lost of those have $15 -500Mb 4G plan.

But you can use Facetime and Whatsapp to make the call instead.  Personally, I would take the 500Mb on the new $18 plan instead of the 100 mins LD to only selected countries

@SeniorCitizen

1. look like the 2 different $15 plans both will have a new price tag of $18

2. no, you won't get automatic "upgrade" to the new $18 plan.  You need to go to My Account and make the change yourself.  Change on Renewal

SeniorCitizen
Model Citizen / Citoyen Modèle

Sooooo.  As per the text what will the new $18 plan include?

1. Your exact $15 plan as of right now (which there are a few different ones) with a new price tag of $18

OR

2. Will upgrade automatically to the $18 plan as posted from the online subscriptions currently available? (Which is a loss of 100 Minutes LD and a gain of 500mb of data.)

Well, what a blessing it was to receive this text this morning while waiting in the hospital! Like things aren’t difficult enough! My 1st thought was, is this text real or a joke?

While $3 isn’t much to some people, for some of us it is a lot when trying to live off a low fixed monthly income! Take more & more away until there’s no benefits left to staying here at all!

Have a blessed day everyone!

hi @Coryl1

if you used Change on Renewal to schedule the change, you wouldn't see it on Change Subscription page anymore as the plan is already scheduled to be change.  That could be why

and no @Handy1  , your comment is unfair, the plan is still there
