"there is no option for VoLTE on my phone.  Only lteor 3G"  even though the internet search say that iphone 8 is volte enabled.  this means that the (carrier+apple) with their software updates are switching this option off to suite the public mobile network.

may wife (iphone 😎 and I (Galaxy S10+) took the public mobile US/Canada plan since 4 months now.

yesterday we went to Buffalo for a trip. we were at ease thinking that our phone will have service in the US like what we have in Canada.

we were wrong.  the S10+ was not able to make or receive any calls. text messages were ok and wifi was schetchy to ok. the LTE, AT&T signal ladder logos were showing although they go on or off depending on the geographical location.

the iphone 8 on the other hand was completely mute. no text messages, no internet and no calls out or in. the LTE, AT&T cellular signal logos were showing but the signal strenfth was only one bar regardless of the geographical location.

my cousin who was visiting buffalo with us had an iphone 7 he is on US/Canada plan similar to ours but from Freedom mobile.  he had no trouble at all his phone atlo showed AT&T logo but had all the services text, call and internet in a normal way just like in Canada.

this tells me that my troubles is not caused by the (Hardware i.e. our phones) but are attributed to the public mobile service or network.    it somehow changed the settings of our phones to render them useless on the AT&T network.  the AT&T network was providing service to both public mobile and Freedom mobile.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with this regards.

I can confirm that there is no VoLTE option/menu on the phone even when the phone and account are enabled for VoLTE. You just have to make a test call to see if it's working.

@Dublicate_acct , the iOS menus for older phones is a little confusing.  If you are able to select both voice and data and enable LTE, it means exactly that, both voice and data are able to use LTE.  Voice calls will be VoLTE.

On the Telus website confirmed that  my iPhone is VoLTE compatible . Followed instructions on how to enable it -However the only select options on my iPhone 8  are 3G - or LTE. (Running IOS 16.5.1)

To enable VoLTE on an iPhone or an iPad running iOS 13 and later:
  1. Go to Settings SelectCellular
  2. Select Cellular data options
  3. SelectVoice & data
  4. SelectLTE, VoLTE on

@Dublicate_acct  no worry, if you have iPhone 8 and above, your VoLTE is there.

Telus just hide the VoLTE toggle, but it pushed the carrier update to turn it on

You can test it by:

turn off Wifi first. Check if the phone status bar showing it is connected to 4G or LTE

Then make some calls, see if the signal indicator shows LTE or drop back to H or 3G while you are on the calls.  If it stays with LTE, then yes, you are using VoLTE.

if you see the phone changed to 3G while you are on a call, message support instead and confirm if our account is VoLTE enabled
