All figured out. There were two sims available just needed to “turn on” the PM one. They both looked identical since we ported in the new number and the one marked Primary was turned on but it was the old deactivated sim from Bell. The message “unable to activate sim” was confusing.

@Nancys6506 Did you leave bell sim in the phone and reply YES to the confirmation text to port number to PM ? If so there’s a number for live support that can re trigger the port request will send it to you private message

@Nancys6506 - did you receive a QR code via email to activate the esim? Do you have an esim compatible phone?
Also, are you activating through the Public Mobile app? If not, download the app and try that.
If still issues, maybe click this link to use the: Public Mobile Online Activation Assistance

what brand and model of phone do you have?
The error could be just the app cannot installed the eSIM , rather than really cannot activate.
Did you get to the eSIM installation step? Either the app will ask for your permission to do it for you automatically, or you will get a QR code to install yourself.
If you missed the step, there is a QR code in your Welcome email. Open it from a computer, or another device, then use your phone to scan it to install the eSIM profile on your phone
Once you installed the eSIM profile, (or If you got passed that step), try to reboot your phone once.
If it still does not connect and if you have another active sim on the phone , disable them (eSIM/Physica sim) using the SIM Manager on the phone or remove the physical sim.
And make sure the one associated with PM sim and your phone number is enabled (On iPhone, At Settings->Cellular , make sure the PM eSIM is set as Primary and "Turn on This Line" is toggled on)
Then click Reset All Networks on your phone and it will work. (Please note that Reset all Networks will also erase your saved Wifi and Bluetoosh connections, but you just need to add them back after). Also, it is possible you have to reset it multiple times for it to work.
if it still does not work, please open ticket with PM support

if you are overseas now, there is really no point to buy eSIM now, unless you are in US with roaming plan or add-on purchased and active. You can download app and buy eSIM and install but you cannot really use it if you are overseas. Maybe you can wait till you are back in Canada to buy physical or eSIM and then you can use the service and test out the new sim

Just an FYI if you're looking to be able to call back to Canada for free, as stated below you're PM phone will not work outside of Canada and the USA. You can however, if you have access to free WiFi or purchased a data plan where you may be, you can download TextNow and be able to use it calling back to Canada and texting too. That's the only option now.

@sab25355 Your PM account won’t work over seas anyways . But you will need to log into the app on the phone and go to subscriptions add on page and notice at the bottom of that page shop sim . Select it and choose eSIM download and install or just get a new physical SIM card and SIM card swap the number in your account profile page or get support to help with it
SIM SWAPPING profile tabs
Note only do this on lap top or computer/ not mobile device

If your device is E-SIM compatible, go on your device and download the Public Mobile app.Login to your account, go to subscriptions and add-on’s and then at the bottom of the page is an option “Shop SIM Card Now” click that and you can select E-SIM ($5). It will download to your phone automatically through the app or you can add it manually with the QR code. Just know if you are overseas your Public Mobile service will not work until you’re back in Canada or are in the US with a roaming add-on or Can-US plan.
