can the mobile phones be used after i go abroad ?

If someone has a province-wide plan, I would appreciate someone testing call forwarding to an out-of-province number and reporting back if it works, doesn't work, and if it consumes minutes from your plan if it does.

I suspect conditional call forwarding may not consume minutes, (That's what used to happen on the old $10 plan...) and unconditional forwarding will...  out of add-on minutes if available...

There's only two things that matter for the province-wide calling plans:

1. The province your phone is currently in determines which province you can make unlimited calls to.
2. Incoming calls to your number, no matter which province (or territory) the phone number is associated with, and no matter which province (or territory) you are presently in are always unlimited

"Home province" is meaningless... It's an arbitrary definition of calling back to a province other than the one you are currently in.

I do expect a problem then, because the forwarding is being managed before a call reaches your phone. So, there's know way for the system to know you have left your home province.

Neat, thats cool to know..... And I presume you had set an "unconditional" forward? (*21*...)I was thinking with darlicious' prevous post that if voicemail continued to work, then at least reprogramming the "conditional" fowardings (*004*...) would definitely work. But your guys' last few posts answered both scenarios!

I guess you just need to make sure you setup the forwarding prior to plan expiry or setting lost/stolen, since you won't be able to change it while expired/suspended/lost/stolen...

@darlicious I did this recently to try out Fongo wireless service; i.e. setup call forwarding then suspended PM service and removed the PM SIM. Forwarding continued to work throughout. As it's a $10 plan have left the forwarding set up even after reactivating the PM account; mainly because I like getting email notification of voicemail.

Thank you for that I was unsure about the forwarding. I know voicemail works when suspended for lost/stolen but call forwarding as well? I have wondered about this...if no one can test until the end of the month I can as I need to suspend one account and reactivate another so I would love to test the theory if @Nezgar would like to advise me on the procedure.....

@holden2021    Your device can certainly be used to access any internet service over WIFI giving you option to use messaging apps like Whatsapp, Skype etc. 

Unfortunately, as already mentioned, PM doesn't offer roaming services outside of US so a local SIM will probably be your best option if you're planning on staying away for an extended period of time

@darlicious FYI: call forwarding works even if the SIM is not in a phone as long as it's set up before removing the SIM. I think it also works while an account is suspended as well.

A mobile device may be able to be used anywhere that the signal and frequencies in that area are sufficient are supported by the device's capabilities.   After researching this, pick up a SIM card/plan in the country you're visiting after confirming your device is compatible, insert it, and you're good to go.

As far as using Public Mobile service, aside from Canada, you can only use in the USA, WITH a purchased US Roaming add-on:

You can leave your sim card in Cnada in a working phone that is left plugged in and "on" and forward your phone to your fongo number. Then while on wifi or while using a local or international sim with data be able to recieve calls sent to your pm number and make calls from your fongo number. (This doex not apply to texts to your pm phone.)

Local sim cards offer very competitive rates especially when compared to Canadian mobile plan rates with some countries being up to 90% cheaper such as the UK or India ( we"re not going to have a problem here are we>>oracles?) or in some cases like the UAE a free sim card with unlimited calling/texting and 20gb of data to use during your visit. You can check out international roaming sims or wifi hotspots on amazon.

If you mean roaming, PM only offers roaming in the US with 10 day add-ons. In other countries, you would have to purchase a local sim or use Wi-Fi apps like Skype, Fongo, Signal, or FaceTime.

Other than in Canada, Public Mobile only offer service in the U.S. (if you have a roaming add-on). Other than that, there is no service anwhere else.
