SIM Card in Mexico

Supercorm

I have a new iPhone. My Public Mobile eSIM is in my old iPhone.

I am using the new iPhone for a trip to Mexico. I bought an eSIM from Airelo.

Upon my arrival, I received text messsges (sms) which I thought was linked to my old iPhone, or public mobile SIM card.

Is there any risk that receiving sms on my new iPhone, despite a Mexican eSIM card, will be charged fees (ie text, roaming, etc).

@Phil_Adelphus  Correct, iMessage is always linked to an email address, but is usually also linked to one's phone number. Hence, airalo can send and receive your iMessages even if, nominally, sent to your phone number.

@hairbag1 I use airalo whenever I travel, even to the USA. It is data only. I pair this with a free CDN number from Textnow for calls and SMS. Practically speaking, I rarely get a call so data is used for any number of messaging apps that I use.

@hTideGnow

how does airalo work ? $36US for 30 days for 30 mins talk and 30 sms's plus 3GB data ? Do you get a Cdn number or a Mx number ? Can friends in Canada dial me in Mx without using long distance ?

I've used Telcel with their Amigo 200 package for under $20 Cdn / 30 days. Unlimited talk / text to/from Canada/US/Mex. and 4.5 GB's data. I have a Mx number so friends/fam need to text me and I call'em right back (no charges) If my 30 days haven't used up when I get home...I can still use it in Canada.

HI @Supercorm

unless you changed over in US and accidentally got the "free" inbound text in US, three is absolutely no PM service in Mexico and you wouldn't any any calls or texts or data

And PM is preopaid carrier, so, you didn't pay, you wouldn't get any service, and they won't charge you back afterward.

Just enjoy your trip and enjoy the good tranvel esim service with airalo.  I like that too

@Supercorm  Are you sure they are SMS's and not iMessage, assuming your new phone is linked to your Apple iD?  I can't see how you could receive anything related to Public Mobile if the PM sim is in your old phone (in Canada?).

Hey @Supercorm

Public Mobile only works in Canada and in the USA. Not in Mexico. Remember, this is a pre paid service. You won't get charged for anything.
