Hi everyone. I have just joined. We moved from BC last year to NS and want to change our cell phone plan. Public Mobile looked like a great option. I tried searching for this answer. Can I keep my current iPhone and NS phone number. Is it just a matter of getting a new SIM from Public Mobile and putting it in my current phone??
Thanks.

I'm happy to hear you have full coverage. The last time I visited my parents in Antigonish there were many pockets of rural counties that simply had no coverage or if I could connect to the network it was often to a tower in PEI. Don't worry I wasn't sighing at you.
BTW....if you would like to tag someone just tap the "@" key and if the username doesn't pop up keep typing it out until it does....
Thanks for supplying the coverage map with more comprehensive network details.

I live in Nova Scotia and am currently with Telus myself.

@AlisonAnnett which province you are in? you have anyone using Telus/Kodoo/Bell/Virgin/Lucky?

Just checked your link. I do have that coverage in my area. Thanks so much!

Visit https://www.telus.com/en/mobility/network/coverage-map?INTCMP=tcom_mob_network_button_check-my-cover... and check 4G HSPA+ coverage. Without HSPA+ coverage, calling won't be available.

Sigh.....😔
Sure the network coverage map is going to indicate you have coverage but it doesn't delineate between the type of network coverage you can recieve in your location. You already have telus as your provider so you are covered by the bell/telus network. So you are covered as far as the 4G LTE network goes but the 3G network may not have been deployed in your "rural" area or some or all of your local cell tower's 3G network capacity has been sacrificed for the deployment of the 5G network?

Thanks for the link. It says my location has coverage. 👍👍

@AlisonAnnett wrote:Thanks everyone. Seems I should be ok to keep my NS number then here in NS. From reading the replies I have gathered that.. I shall get a PM SIM and PM number just to make sure it works in my area of Nova Scotia, which is a good idea as we are in rural Nova Scotia, and if it’s all grand then port my number across in My Account! My iPhone contract with Telus was up in December 2022. I have an iPhone 11. I think that answers all the questions I was asked. Cheers!
@AlisonAnnett - Nova Scotia should have good coverage in a lot areas, but there are some areas that may be iffy.
Just to be sure, check this link for a coverage map:

Telus owns pm but you should perform one important test. Switch your phone to 3G only and see if you can connect to the 3G network and make a phone call. Until telus decides it will implement VoLTE calling for pm customers voice calls with pm use the 3G network. You may not have 3G network connectivity in your location. Which is where in Nova Scotia?

Add Yo Yo shipping options to the Yo Yo SIM card pricing and you get a Champion Gold Duncan’s Yo Yo!! Who knows.....but I don’t get excited about this guy and his conflicting advertising on his web site. Free SIM shipping it says in an overall statement, but not for Public Mobile.

I wonder what's up with that?

Do keep mind that Canadian Cell Supplies is NOT shipping SIMS with free delivery. Last time I checked was $17.
My guess is that he wants local business only and wants to push his referral code on to the customer face to face.

There shouldn't be any restrictions to port your phone number into public mobile but to be absolutely sure check your phone number for portability in the link below....
https://secure.koodomobile.com/checktransfereligibilityparrot/default.do
When you do activate choose a temporary phone # (as mentioned by @CountyDownIeUk ) from Alberta. This way you will only pay gst on your activation plan (saving 10% in sales tax). You could manually top up your account balance before porting in your phone # to further save 10%? Port in after you determine all of your pm Sim card services are working properly.
Last I looked pm Sim cards were 2 for $10 (BOGO) on the website or on sale at Canadian Cell Supplies for $4+tax. Keep your eye out on the community for a bonus referral promotion usually for an extra $25 ($5×5 months ) on top of the regular $10 bonus credit. Be sure to cascade your referral codes as you activate ...you get referred and activate use your referral code to refer your family member who activates and uses their referral code to...and so on...
If you need a referral code just private message a community member of your choosing and ask them to be your friend.....and to share their referral code with you. Unsolicited referral codes are against the community terms of service and should not be used but rather reported. But that's up to you....but friends don't spam their friends with their referral code!!😁 Lol...we just badger them the regular way thru calls, text and email.....🤪

OP said.

Can I keep my current iPhone and NS phone number.
So appears that @AlisonAnnett used to live in BC and moved to current location of Nova Scotia.
And already has a Nova Scotia number.
So the question should be.....can I port my existing mobile number to PM.

No problem using the iPhone as long as it is not locked with another carrier if the phone was purchased after 2017.
What model iPhone is it?
Keep the PM SIM in the phone and it should stay as is.
To change the plan, just login to your account and go to Plans & Add-on and pick the plan you want.

Keep your existing plan active.
Start a PM plan and take a number from PM
Make sure it works well for you. You will be using Bell Towers
Then once satisfied port your number into PM from your My Account.
You will have to put your old sim in your phone.
Your old carrier will text you and you need to text back a yes.
Then put PM sim back in.
Yes buy a Sim, activate it, port during the activation process or a few days later.

HI @AlisonAnnett it is Mobile provider, so, they don't really need to match your location with the number
So, you are perfectly OK to keep using your NS number in BC
If you have not joined yet, you can just select "bring in a existing number" when you activate.
Enjoy PM

@AlisonAnnett yes you can . Pick what ever plan you like best
01-12-2023 12:23 PM
Yes, you can keep your number and iphone. Just make sure your iphone is unlocked from its previous provider @AlisonAnnett.
The rest you have correct!

@AlisonAnnett Yes you can.
You can simply request porting your old number when you activate
using NS number in BC has no problem. Just that your BC friends might need to call a NS area code. Most people have Canada wide calling so LD charge should not be an issue. Only those with old landline might still be charged LD
