Just to ad to this, if there is a deal here you want to grab now, you CAN reach out to the other service provider and ask them how much it would cost to buy out your contract. If you have say 3 months left and it's $60 to pay it out, that might be worth it to the money you save between here and there over the long run. Make sense?

@illy   Yes you can.  I did exactly that.  I tried out PM for about six months before porting in my regular phone number.

Hi @illy
What you can do is you can get a new number right now and then change your number (port other number) later. If you are talking about purchasing in the future, it won't matter, you can just port when you switch.

Hi @illy

not sure if you meant this

you can activate new line with PM with a temporary phone number

keep your current number with your current provider

yes, you are paying both plans

When you are ready, you go into PM's My Account and submit porting request

@illy you can port in your number to Public whenever you like. Either during activation or activate with a new number then port in afterwards.

Confirm your number is portable here: https://secure.koodomobile.com/checktransfereligibilityparrot/default.do?lang=en&appname=otherportal

It says koodo,  but same system as public.

Hi @illy

Best to port in your number a few days before your contract and account close at the other provider. No way to do it ahead of time. Well, can't really port before your contract ends so you may have to pay one extra month of service before porting over to PM.
