activating a new account on new phone using number from old phone

I went through the process of setting up my wife's new phone right up to the point of adding and varafying the phone number from the old phone but nothing happened, How do I get to talk with a Public Mobile rep?

When you are ready to port in your wife's phone number in her new self serve account you will need to enter:

  1. The full name on the old provider's account.
  2. The old provider.
  3. The phone # to be ported.
  4. The old provider's account #.

@DonGP   which provider you are trying to port in from?

 

And the easiest way is to pick a new number first

 

Make sure your old number with the old carrier still active

 

Then try activation again.  In step 2 about phone number, just pick any new number.  No worry, this is just temporary.    Complete the activation, then put in the new sim card in a phone.  Make sure you can make calls and receive calls on the new phone number

 

Once your new PM line is activated, and you tested that you can make and receive calls without problem.  You can then  either login to My Account and arrange porting again, or open ticket with PM support and ask them for help with the porting.   Whichever way you choose, once the porting request is submitted, put your old sim card back to a phone and wait for the porting authentication text from your old provider, reply YES within 90 mins.  Then you put your PM sim card back to a phone and the porting should complete within 2 hours

There is no phone support at public mobile only selected live chat for activations, some texting support and online private messaging. And the community of course! 😁😉

You can probably start the activation again now. I suggest that instead of porting in at activation that you choose a temporary number instead. If you choose an Alberta phone # you will pay only gst on the plan amount. Then you can easily choose the plan.

 

Enter the referral code for the $10 bonus credit ( yours I assume) and a promocode if applicable. Then pay for the plan with your credit card. Take a screenshot of the first page of the activation showing the 4 digit account pin # and password for your records and print or screenshot the transaction summary at the end of the activation after the 1234 countdown.

 

Put the pm Sim card in the phone and reboot. Check that all services are working both in and out....calls, texts and data. If all is good log into the self serve account and port your wife's phone number thru the profile page by clicking on "change phone #".

 

Make sure you put the old Sim card in the phone to reply YES within 90 minutes of receiving the PAT (porting authorization text). The port will complete within a few minutes to a max of 2 hours. You can put the pm Sim card back in the phone after you reply YES and reboot. Once the old Sim stops working and you can call your wife on the pm Sim card you are golden!

Yes the old account is still active as a matter of fact I just tried my wife's old phone and it still works.

before when I was searching for a cell phone provider I actually got to speak with a person but today I could not find any way to speak with a person I wonder why that was.

Thank you I have sent a private message, hopfully I will here something soon. I am thinkinh I might have to go through the process all over as when I checked my bank account I saw that my card was not charged for this set up.

Ok great. You will need to wait out the one hour lock out session on your Sim card before you can start the activation again. What provider is your wife currently with? Is it prepaid or postpaid service?

I just checked my bank and no my card has not been charged for this set up.

Did you pick a temporary phone number and continue all the way thru the activation? Or decide to stop there and come to the community for help?

got stuck at the step about porting the old number and I just used the ole phone and it is still working.

Did you complete the activation and the plan was charged to your card? Then you replied YES to the PAT (porting authorization text) to port your wife's phone number to Public mobile?

 

If nothing is working on the the pm Sim card in either your wife's phone or if you put it in your phone then the Sim card did not provision correctly upon activation. If the old Sim card also no longer works then you successfully ported your wife's phone number to pm but you need to get customer support to provision the Sim card to her account. If her old Sim card still works hold off on reinitiating the port request until you are in contact with customer support to fix the pm Sim card first then once done they can make the port request for you.

@DonGP   is the old account still active?  only active account can have number ported into PM

 

did you get to the end of the activation, paid and activated? or you cannot even get to the end of the activation, and got stuck at the step about porting you old number?
