I have an old data add-on that doesn't expire and I just purchased one that expires in a month. I'd like my data usage to be drawn from the one which expires rather than my old data add-on. How can I ensure this?

From what I've experienced here:
On the $15/mo prepaid plan with 2GB x-mas data bonus (that doesn't expire) and 3gb data add-on purchased this month (that expires in 30 days), the 3gb data add-on was the first to be used after the data in the included plan was used up.

@Luddite- 1gb came before the 2gb. Maybe I should not have been so hasty to write what I did. I'll squirm out of it by saying I said "I think" 🙂 . One of my accounts is still sitting on some remains of the original 5gb promo (the reason I started that account). I'm almost done a "5GB one-time data bonus" which is the one currently being used. I have no memory of how and why I got that (without digging around). Maybe a compensation for some mishap. Maybe that shamozzle over a western compete freebie. I still have an untouched "2GB one-time data bonus".
I've also lost track of when things arrived and what has been used and when. My list for that account is the original 5gb then the next 5gb then the 2gb. So the one being used is the middle one.

@dust2dust My recollection is add on usage is last/most recent in is the first out. I have an old Xmas 2gb and 1gb, but I don't remember which order they came. The 2gb is being consumed first.
Maybe someone has a better memory; the 2gb is labeled 2GB one-time data bonus, the 1gb is 1GB Promo

I don't really think this alone is a reason to leave, as PM was previously an outlier by not having an expiry date on data add-on's. Any other provider you move to will also have expiring add-on's.
I don't follow why you'd buy an add-on when you already have one with no expiry? Maybe contact @CS_Agent via PM and see if they'll reverse/refund you for your purchase.

HI @phoenix21
I think that was discussed before and no one really know
You can try to buy and see if it turns out what you expected. If they used your old one first, you can ask agent to reverse the purchase, they will usually agree, but don't expect they can change to make the system to use the paid addon first.

@phoenix21 yes since new system update now expires 30 days after purchase . There’s big discussion about it here please sign the petition

I agree with you 100% about use it till it's gone because you HAVE paid for it. I've never liked that about ALL cell phone providers. I think it's something that's been fought for years with the CRTC. We need a legislation passed by our government that what's paid for is ours. No expire dates. It took them YEARS to make gift certificates with no expire dates. They need to step up now but... all that funding for their political careers is paid for by big companies like.... cough cough.... yup.

I appreciate the positive attitude and I do hope that it uses the newer one, but there definitely was a change to how data add-ons are treated. I've been a subscriber for quite a while and data add-ons used to have the roll-over model, where you could purchase x amount of data and use it at your leisure until you used it all up. That's what made Public Mobile so attractive over the other prepaid carriers.
This change causes for people to lose out on what they've already paid for, if I pay for 3gb, I'd like to use it all, and it'd benefit everyone's wallets. With the refactor of the rewards system + the data add-ons, Public Mobile becomes less and less of a customer-first carrier.

Well it's not a "Change" per say. It may have always been like this and we just didn't know. Sometimes, like right now, we encounter things that are new to us. Questions that we've never even thought of till now. Since you brought it to our attention, this is a learning experience for everyone, unless someone already knows the answer. LOL. Then I will learn from them.
Like I said @phoenix21 trial and error. Use a bit, wait 24 hours and check your account. See if the newest one you purchased is used vs your "Christmas Data".
And if this is the case, TBH, I'm not sure how long you've been here for but... something is simple is this, it's not worth leaving. You just need to decide which is worth it to you. Extra data or saving money. Me, I like money. And pizza. And money. 🙂

I see, that's unfortunate, especially as I don't want to use up the older one that doesn't expire (really thinking of moving away from public because of this change). How could I get support's eyes on this when it's just a chat bot?
08-22-2023 05:35 PM
I tend to agree with @Handy1 here. IMO it would be the oldest is used first. However, once again, another thing that PM isn't clear about and should be clear about. As the Handy 1 says, watch it, see what's used first. If you wouldn't mind, please report back which it is so we as a community know. 🙂

@phoenix21 That’s a good question typically I think it would be oldest one on the account after your reg plan data bucket used up . Might need to keep an eye on it and asks support to adjust it should it take from your roll over data first

I think it's first in first out. Why did you buy an add-on when you already had some on hand?
