Phone Ideas?

Sansan
Mayor / Maire

Greetings!

I need to get a replacement phone. Looking at Amazon.  I checked a few and some says compatible with PM, while some says not compatible with Koodo or Telus.

Any ideas ? Something rugged. Good battery.  Great camera.

FM radio would be a plus!!

I am looking for something around $250.

Doable??

😊

@Sansan

Reebelo offers good deals on refurbished phones. They have Google Pixel 3's starting at $136, 4's around $200, 5's at $265 even a 6a at $245. Your friend will get an excellent camera, guaranteed minimum 80% battery, 1 year warranty and free delivery.

I did find this. Bestbuy.ca has it for around $127.

Android all the way!! Samsung for life!! 😁.

It's not for me though. Just helping someone who lost theirs.  It will probably happen again, so that's why we don't need anything fancy.

@colleeno  thanks for the suggestion,  I'll check it out later. I'm in a bind though cause I don't really shop online, I don't shop at Costco, I will sometimes try Amazon or Bestbuy and there's a small budget 😊.

@markmitsucorrect, but it specifically said does not work with Telus and koodo but PM ok.

@BKNS27  I was reading about one of the Blackview and it sounded good  but it did say not compatible with PM in the fine print.

I like having money in my pocket but, never Iphone 🤪 (even though it's not for me)

I have never shopped at Costco,  probably never will.....

I did go on Bestbuy.ca and they do have some decent ones there. Including the  Moto G

You have to decide on OS first.

Apple is proprietary, closed OS and it ties you up with apple with their id or whatever...

Android is more open. With Android you have to chose a phone with the least of bloatware. Every manufacturer adds something to 'their version' of Android; skins, app you do not need, etc. I heard Pixel is the cleanest and designed as Android is supposed to be. If I am to get new phone I would go with Pixel...

You cannot get up-to-date phone for $200 unless it 'fell off the truck'. You will have to settle with used, but well preserved 2-3 generations old phone. Nothing wrong with it. My S10 works just fine and I have no intention to change it unless mobile industry with their updates forces me to.

No, I do not like apple at all due to their OS restrictions. Other people will stake their life on it.

@Sansan I recommend SecondCell.ca if you’re interested in purchasing a refurbished phone. They sell both iPhones and Androids. I have bought used iPhones from them and have been quite happy with my purchases. Their phones come with a 1-year warranty.

I agree with sticking to more mainstream like the Samsung A35 or Moto.

With a budget of $250 it's a bit out of the price range, but I'm a big fan of Google's lower budget lineup of Pixels (the "a" versions, i.e. Pixel 6a, 7a, 8a). The 8a is currently on sale for $599 on the pixel store and is a fantastic phone at that price point.

@Sansan

My friend got the Moto (Motorola) G Play ($139) and he was happy with it and got the Moto G Stylus 5G for ($349).

He also ordered the Blackview phone but it didn’t work on any Canadian carriers so avoid this phone! Good thing he got a refund.

As @hTideGnow pointed out the the Moto G 5G is on sale for $200 in green but at my local Costco. They have it in black for the same price.

@hTideGnow  Yes but even thou it’s more like $1000 for new iPhone considering you can easily sell it for $700 the following year and have a tuff time selling the android the over cost becomes less expensive in my view . And once you have apple it’s hard to go back it’s like driving Lexus/toyota and going back to  Hyundai/ Kia not fun at all

LoL @Handy1

no iPhone is in the $200 range.  iPhone does not cost a bit more but cost a lot.. 🙂

and i think @Sansan is with the Android camp

@Sansan  My vote is for iPhone yes it costs bit more but having iPhone  is like having $ in the bank when your ready to sell it

Thanks. Yes purchases online can be sketchy.

But where does someone get a budget phone. I don't mind the Samsung.  When I go to Walmart are wherever,  none of the phones on the shelf are budget friendly.

I'll keep looking thanks.

HI @Sansan

honest, I would be very careful with phones on Amazon, not all phones are designed for Canadian

Also, the OS update is another issue if you are getting smaller brands

why don't you stay with mainstream ones, like Samsung A35 or Moto?
