I changed my PM number sometime last year but I’m now finding that one of my vital accounts is linked to it and I can’t gain access without having that number. How can I get that number back?
I was thinking of buying another SIM card and asking to have the number reassigned to it or an e sim? How can I get this situation resolved?

Hey that’s what I eventually did after posting this. I called and the number isn’t in service so I’ve logged a ticket with CS

Did the number come from PM? If not you will need to contact the original provider that the number came from and ask them if the number available and get a plan through them if it is.

Hello @Jillpop3
As stated, the number is gone and probably with someone else. Best advice I could give is to maybe try calling that number and see if anyone answers. Be very very polite and explain your situation and ask if they'd be kind enough to help you if you're able to send the code to your old number and they can send it to you. Advise them you will change it right away and thank them profusely. Kindness goes a very long way.

Highly unlikely you can get back your old number.
Call it and if you get a massage number is not in service or similar, open a ticket and ask agent if they can help you getting back that number if it is still unassigned.

@Jillpop3 that number is likely long gone. Typically when a number has been forfeited it gets returned to the company that first issued it and then placed back into the available pool. Have you tried contacting the company the account is with that you are referring to to see if they can update your account to reflect your new number?
