Transfer not quite straight forward

Present rogers customer renting a samsung S23.
Need to return it in early May and have an Apple phone ordered as a replacement privately. --not through Rogers.
Planning to move from Rogers customer to Public Mobile.
Please advise the order of requirements.
1) should I first change phones on my Rogers account , and transfer all photos, info from android to iPhone?
2) then leave rogers with all on new iPhone phone and

@Rick727272 Whichever way you do it, make sure that your Rogers account is still active when you decide to port the number to Public Mobile, don't close it first or it will cause problems. What you could do is set up the iPhone with the cheapest Public Mobile plan and a new number to test it, then when you're ready go ahead and port in your number from Rogers.

It should not matter which way you do it. Either way should work and either way may or may not result in a transfer problem (transfer Roger's number to new Apple and then porting to PM versus porting to PM and transferring PM number to new Apple).
If you are already paid up on your Roger's plan and Samsung rental up to May. Or if there is a penalty to terminate the Rogers plan early, I would probably advise staying at Rogers.
One argument to switch to PM early is that PM could change their new activation plans in May. The new activation plans can change and they could get better or worse at that time.

you don't need to change the phone device itself with rogers
if you want to come to PM first, activate an account with PM with a new phone number. Then by May or Jun when your S23 is due, you can request porting phone number from Rogers and your Rogers account will be close
but of course, if the penalty to leave Rogers earlier is not a lot, you can just request port from Rogers and pay the penalty
