New phone can text but not make/receive calls

I purchased a new phone (Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G). After a full factory reset and inserting my old SIM, I am able to send and receive texts but not calls. I turned off wifi to ensure texts weren't just going through wifi but it's definitely MMS.

I was worried this might be the case. When I go into my network settings, in 'network mode' instead of the usual options of 3G/4G/5G, it lists LTE/WCDMA/GSM. Does this tell you anything in that regard?

@ktclev through your settings click on about phone or about device it should list the model number

keep SIM card in and do  hard reset on SAMSUNG Galaxy S20

@ktclev  So PM SIM card works in old phone but not this one ? .. do you have anyone else around you that has working SIM card that you can try in this new to you second hand phone and see if it works as it should 

There are 12 different models of this phone and the statement about varying frequencies would have me worried you have one with not the correct 3g frequencies in that phone

I have confirmed it is a Canadian model (SM-G781W)

@ktclev  Is this a new phone from store never used you mention factory data reset as it could have been second hand

@LoveNature they mentioned the phone in the very first post. They are also saying that texting works so the sun is inserted and connected to the network

Yes, the SIM has been checked multiple times to ensure proper insertion

How do I check this? It was purchased locally so I'd be surprised if it were an international model

I did not need to port my number, I've been with public Mobile for years. New phone, same plan

No message, dead air then eventually hangs up. When an inbound caller leaves a voice-mail I get a notification but can't dial out to check it. Disconnected Bluetooth to ensure that wasn't the issue and no luck. Calling 611 gives the same issue

SIM works fine in my other device, and account status is active

Yes, data still works when wifi is turned off. Both inbound and outbound calls are dead air

Samsung does not use WiFi for SMS/MMS.

To receive/send MMS you have to set DATA on.

Did you do porting of your number to PM????

@ktclev what happens when you make an outbound call?  Do you get any message?  Are you able to call 611?  Could you have bluetooth headphones connected and you're just not hearing the call because it's going through BT headphones?  Maybe silly but have to ask. 🙂

try to check your SIM card in other device,  and Login to your account is your status is show is Active.

Hi @ktclev can you turn off Wifi and see if data works?

 

And both inbound and outbound calls failed?
