Important Update: eSIM QR Code Now Included in Activation Summary Emails

Hi Community,

We're happy to share some news that aims to make your eSIM installation process smoother and easier. As of June 15, we've started including an eSIM QR code in our activation summary emails.

Why does this matter?

If you encounter any difficulties downloading your eSIM during activation in the app, you now have a quick and easy solution - the QR code provided in your email. To effectively use this feature, open the email on a different device so that you can scan the QR code with the phone you want to use for your Public Mobile service. This lets you download your eSIM directly, and once done, you can log back into the app as an existing user.

This enhancement is part of our ongoing commitment to streamline our services and provide you with the best possible experience.

Stay tuned for more updates,

The Public Mobile Team

I just bought one for $4.99 on Amazon

I have never received a QR code and I pay for 3 separate accounts for myself and 2 sons. All login emails are attached to one account but I have also checked each individually and still nothing

can’t install esim. No code no email

How do I get the app to activate me and send me the QR code even if it thinks I don't have a compatible phone?  I have an esim sim card and can install esims, but the app refuses to let me continue.

Soon, very soon. It's one of the most asked questions amongst The Community.

Users really want the feature for existing Accounts. (I am one of those users 😄)

$4.99 on Amazon, directly from Public Mobile with 1-2 Day Prime Delivery.

Once it arrives you can contact Customer Support to have it updated manually if you can't switch from e-SIM to Physical SIM in the Activation Process.

I have 3 e-SIMs on my Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra from Public Mobile, and than the 4th from Bell.

I just broke my screen today, and upgrading isn't an option for me since I need those e-SIMs since they can't be transferred to a new device.. I'll be using my Broken screen till its worse or not working than repair it if Public Mobile doesn't offer a 'Transfer e-SIM' or switch to e-SIM for existing customers for me to upgrade before that.

Bell has an option to 'Recover a Deleted SIM' within their app, and it allows you to restore Service to your old e-SIM or SIM Card for any reason of deactivation.

This is a decent feature Public Mobile could add, right after they add the 'Add Funds with Card' and 'Account PIN' back to New Accounts.

Working in Device Sales, I can confirm Samsungs do hold their Value.

A few weeks ago I sold a 128GB Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in New Conditions for $750 with my included Warranty + Guarantees.

Samsung Galaxy Smartphones sold 2020 and newer all support e-SIM.

If you go into settings and about, if there is two IMEI Numbers, than your phone is indeed compatible with e-SIM.

good thing i hsve a sim for my second phone, my samsung galaxy s20 doesn't support esim to the best of my knowledge

@softech and @Priority  i sure hope not . I like apple because it easy to sell a 1 year old iphone each year . Then. 3 year old android that you can’t even give away . So to me it’s cheaper to buy new each year and sell the following year for 3/4  hundred off and be done with it . But if it’s eSIM only then PM can’t even help existing customers with eSIM . And still charge you extra even if they can help existing customers . Is a real disappointment . Just like the new cars today that are basically computers that will do the driving for you and taken away the naturally aspirated. Good feeling cars of yesterday . The worlds becoming more restrictive boring and costly

@Priority  I am not sure about Samsung making this push, I double S24 will be eSIM only

But yes, next iPhone is pretty much a sure bet for eSIM only in Canada

@Priority !the charger is another reason . To maybe stay away . I know many are excited for the iPhone Ditch the lightning cable . So if they do I sure hope they include the charger and cord again . I have so many fast charging lighting cables I don’t want to buy into the new way

If we don't see it in September on the iPhone 15, I can almost guarantee the Samsung S24 Series will be e-SIM only in Canada come February of 2024.

Providers want to save on making SIM Cards, and e-SIM is the way of doing such. Manufacturers like Apple love this fact, since they already like removing things for no reason to cut costs like the Headphone jack + Mute Switch on iPads and let's not forget when they stopped including chargers.. (One less SIM Tool in every phone box, and less Plastic Waste from the Physical SIM Cards and Packaging for them. I am sure we will hear something along the lines of "This is Going to Help Save the Turtles" or something like that from Apple when this change finally is made here in Canada.) 😂

Addition: I also wouldn't recommend anyone upgrade to the iPhone 15 if your only using the Prevoius model like a 13 or 14.. Apple has a habit of re-releasing last years phone with a slightly different design and calling it "New & Reveloutinary".. the only revolutionary things about new iPhones is how dramatically far behind they are compared to competitors like Samsung.. stick with your current one and it will be the same as upgrading, since the differences are so minimal. (Safe to say Apple hasn't gotten a penny from me since the iPhone 8, my 4 year old Samsung Note 20 Ultra has a 108Megapixel Camera, the newest iPhone has what?? A measly 48 Megapixels.. lol, Apple is a total comedy club just seeing how much their customers will pay for 4 year old tech.) - Look how long it took them to add Wireless charging. 😂

@Priority  I hope you’re wrong about eSIM only iPhone for Canada . You’re not the first to mention this  . If this happens it will be the first time I don’t get the newest iPhone in sept . And is being Canada we usually a decade behind anything the US does . I mean we still have 3G and not going anywhere anytime soon . And US is done with it . I sure hope the new iPhone has physical sim . ESIM is horrible money grab and so inconvenient

I'm expecting we will see e-SIM for existing Public Mobile Customers as late as September with the iPhone 15, which will most likely be e-SIM only in Canada, forcing Public to bring e-SIM available to everyone if they haven't already by that time yet.

Priority
Deputy Mayor / Adjoint au Maire

Agreed, more than 90% of the time it doesn't remember my device and always wants to send another code.. even though I'm signing in from a Trusted Device. I miss having the option for this to be turned on and off.

Having to use another device in order to install e-SIM is very inconvenient, I agree with you there however this is a problem across the board with all Providers, not just Public Mobile. Although it doesn't need to be fixed, it sure would be cool to see Public Introduce something new and offer a Button to click in your Welcome to Public Mobile Email to automatically configure your e-SIM instead of the QR Code?

Also @TheGx, do a quick proof read I see one mistake in your reply. Public + Authorization. 🙂

Also there should be a way for phones too read QR code from their own screens so it wouldn't take 2 devices to set up esim...

From what we understand, PM is unable to generate new QR code for used in cases like switching phones due to some limitation.  It will come soon.  Please wait until it is available.  If you really need to change phone, you will have to move back to Physical sim

Is their any way to get a new QR Code to get the eSim info? I was moving my wife's Iphone XR over to Public and in the process I had to go away from my computer for a period of time after which I tried to get the eSim and the QR code had expired. It was for my wife, xxxxx xxxxxxxxx's Iphone which was set up with Public on a $25 mth account. The IMEI code for her phone is xx xxxxxxx xxxxxx x and the phone number ported over from PC Mobile is (xxx)xxx-xxxx. I cannot get to her Community page on her phone so I'm using mine. xxxxxx xxxxxxxxx (xxx)xxx-xxxx.
