Emergency Alerts

My wife and I have been on the Public Network for more than a year.   She receives ALL the RCMP and Weather Alerts just fine ….   However I have never received ANY ???   Why ???   We both have iPhones.  Mine is an iPhone X —-  iOS ver. 16.5.1 (c)

@Kurt2 it has nothing to do with the history of your phone number.

You need to confirm that your phone is on LTE.

Regrettably …. BOTH my wife and I was at home near 5G Wifi ….  Her went off and mine did NOT.   Again I need to talk to the person in charge of the “Big Computer in the sky” that decides what number is a Land line and what number is a Cell.

@Kurt2   Being on a PM 3G plan doesn't necessarily mean you are on the 3G network.  According to Alert Ready to receive the alerts the phone must be able to connect to LTE or 5G, see

https://support.alertready.ca/hc/en-us/articles/4405945993363-I-didn-t-receive-an-alert-how-do-I-kno...

In your phones, in Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Options -> Voice and Data, what are you both set to there?

I hate to tell you, but it works perfectly on my wife’s iPhone and 3G network ….   As I keep saying that’s NOT the problem.

hi @Kurt2 chexk if you have 4G or 5G selected for network.   For sure not  to use 3G

It’s a iPhone X ….   Apple Store are telling me it’s a problem with the Provider ….   But I can’t  anyone to talk to.    My wife also have an iPhone and similar 3G plan and she received it.    I believe the problem is that my cell number used to be our old landline number for 35 - 40 years, but can’t find anyone to flip the switch on the big mother computer somewhere ???

@Kurt2  Today's test alert came through on my PM phone, and again on the spare phone with no sim.  Did you answer the question about what phone do you have (sorry, yes you did).

It still doesn’t work, but I think I have figured out why.   ….  6 years ago we sold our house and I was able to keep my old landline number and transfer it to my (at the time) new Cell phone with Telus.   We had that number for 35 - 40 years.   After switching to a lower cost service (Public) I have been attempting to make the Government Alerts (missing kids/bad weather etc.) to work … but no luck.   Apple Store tells me that it is a problem with the Provider.

The emergency alerts in Canada cannot be opted out from and settings such as notifications are irrelevant.  It's not like a text message.  Your phone does have to be connected to LTE (data doesn't have to be on though).  Even an old phone here that has no SIM but was turned on at the time got the recent tornado alert (to my surprise, I assume it has something to do with a no-sim phone still being able to call 911)!   If the phone is on airplane you won't get them.  There are more details here:  https://www.telus.com/en/support/article/alert-ready-faq

@Kurt2- Let's bring you back over here to your previous thread.
Go to settings, mobile data, mobile data options, voice & data - is this on 4G? If not, choose it.
Is there an option for 5G?

For the alerts - settings, notifications - all the way down - are there any toggles to turn on or off?

@sheytoon- My Samsung says 4G when I turn on data. It shows nothing when calling other than the bars go up.

yes @sheytoon .  And Samung's 4G is 3G, too 😞

@softech be careful, iPhone may show 4G for HSPA on Canadian networks.

@Kurt2

LTE is the Network type, LTE=4G

On the top of the screen showing the signal bars, do you see it showing LTE or 4G or 5G or 3G or HSPA?

What brand and model is your phone?

If you disconnect from wifi, what does it say beside your signal bars?

Is your phone set to LTE? Is there an option somewhere to turn off these alerts in an iphone?
