Does the Light Phone work with Public Mobile?

Hi there,

I'm looking at getting a Light Phone II, but I'm wondering if it will work on Public Mobile.

Currently, this device doesn't ship to Canada, but I was told by light customer support they were working on getting the phone to work with Telus. If that happens, will it work with Public?

Thanks.

@Jade-o-potato I got one, didn't work and luckily I am return it

as said, voice is a problem.  Data sort of work but not great

I have to say, no point to spend the money for such a phone, didn't work well with app 4 of the networks tested.  Stay away

@Jade-o-potato all Light phone has no 3G and that is a killer for voice here

And no, PM has not added it to the VoLTE whitelist. I texted with the IMEI checker and confirmed that

You won't get much first hand experience here as it is not phone and works here

This is from the Light Phone III compatibility info on their site:

I'm just wondering if anyone reading this has actual personal experience using them with PM. thanks,

The Light Phone.

It uses the following 4G LTE Bands:
B2, B4, B12, B13, B17, B25, B26

It will work with the following carriers in your region:
Telus, Public Mobile, Koodo

What if my carrier wasn’t listed?

Unfortunately, if your carrier is not listed, it is unlikely to be compatible.

Light phone has no 3G and not in PM's VoLTE whitelist, so voice calls won't work

Yes, no change in terms of VoLTE for Light phone

hello, I see this post is from a few years ago. Does anyone have any updates on the Light Phones' compatibility with Public mobile now? (August 2025). Now there is a Light phone III version. It says it is compatible with Telus... as far as when I looked a while back, but does anyone actually have the Light phone and uses PM? Thanks, I am in Canada 🙂

@thecynic You'll have no end of issues. I would not recommend it. @softech explained it well.

@thecynic   Light Phone II has compatibility checker says for Canada "Unfortunately, none of the current versions of the Light Phone II are compatible with your region".  I don't think there's a guarantee that if it eventually works for Telus that it will work for PM.

HSPA = 3G = UMTS = WCDMA. This place most definitely does still use it. It would be ideal if your phone has been enabled for volte here though. But it doesn't look your phone in question will work for volte.

I don't think PM uses 3G for voice calls - Canada is working on shutting down most 3G towers. On this page, it doesn't mention 3G for voice calls: https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/bc/get-help/articles/check-your-phones-compatibility

@thecynic

Light Phone II is 4G/LTE only but PM uses 3G for voice calls unless phones are on its VoLTE whitelist, which Light Phone is not.  Since Light Phone 2 has ONLY 4G, it cannot connect to PM 3G network for voice calls
