Hey Community,
Calling all readers, fans of fiction, and novel addicts, it’s Book Lovers Day! Whether you’re into short stories, biographies, or graphic novels, books possess the magical ability to suck you into their own little world. And let’s face it, the more technology has become part of our lives, the harder it is to put down our phones and curl up with a good book. So here are some tips to help get you reading again:
1.Always Have a Book with You
You never know when you’re going to have a few minutes of free time so it’s good to always have a book ready for reading. Whether you’re sitting in a waiting room for five minutes, or commuting on a bus for forty-five, a book is your best friend to replace twiddling your thumbs.
2.Create an Environment Conducive for Reading
Your phone, laptop, and TV are all distractions that can sneakily pull you away from your book. Avoid these traps by reading in a room where you won’t be tempted by technology.
3.Join a Book Club
Going to a book club is a great way to get you reading. Not only will you have people to discuss the book with but they’ll also hold you accountable for keeping up to date with the reading schedule.
4.Stick to Books You Enjoy
Nothing makes reading harder than struggling through a book you find boring. Reading should be fun! Pick up a book that’s impossible to put down.
Hopefully with these tips you’ll get back to being a book wiz! To help you even more, comment below by 12:00 pm ET on August 16 and tell us what you think is the best book of all time and we’ll randomly select three winners who will receive a $50 gift card to Indigo. Happy page-turning! Contest runs August 9 to August 16, 2019. Read Contest Rules before entering.

The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E Lockhart is the book I always return to... I'm pretty sure I've read it at least 5 times since I discovered it. Not only is it a YA, but it goes to prove that girls can do anything boys can if they so choose - don't let anyone tell you you can't do something (especially Frankie!), who could them turn around a usurp the hierarchy of the system. Really powerful, funny book.

I'm only partway through, but I love the Oxford English Dictionary. It's a wild, unpredictable ride. The Aardvark character made a big splash in the beginning and I'm eager to find out when he'll return.

I don’t know that it’s my favourite, but I’ve read The Screwtape Letters more than once (C.S. Lewis). I don’t know if that says something good or bad about me ...

LOVE this book and love Bruce Campbell and Evil Dead. Great mention! Hadn't realized there's a follow up; will definitely check that out.
He also wrote a fiction book in betwen the two autobiographies called Make Love the Bruce Campbell way which was basically a satire of his life shooting a movie. It is not as good as the other 2 books but once you get used to his style it is kind of fun.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy is definetly one of my favorites too. But my favorite of all is The Heaven Tree Trilogy by Edith Pargeter, who also writes as Ellis Peters, An Excellent Mystery by Peters/Pargeter is my favorite too - for anyone who likes books set in medeval times and about Love/Loyalty, I can't think of anything better.

@mh1983 wrote:Probably Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell is one I could return to time and again. Sadly, it's more relevant than ever.
I love Vurt by Jeff Noon, too -- very trippy sci-fi. Give it a try if you're into that sort of thing!
Nineteen Eightty-Four is one of my favorites too and I agree more and more relevant as a warninh against pig culture all over the world, another favorite of mine about pig culture is Catch-22 and Atlas Shruged - all of which are more and more relevant as governments all over the world take more and more away from the individuals.

It's the third of a trilogy by John LeCarre⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Yeah, Smiley's People is one of my favorites too from John Le Carre, I like most of his books especially The Russia House and Absolute Friends and The Spy who Came in from the Cold - A Most Wanted Man and The Constant Gardener are good too, but the one book I didn't like from him was The Mission Song which is nothing like the quality of his usual books.

1984 is one of my favourites of all time. However...
I would recommend Indigenous Writes by Chelsea Vowel for nonfiction. A must read for all Canadians in my opinion. (https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/30181589)
Or The Humans by Matt Haig for fiction. Both funny and thought provoking. (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16130537-the-humans)

This is my suggestion for a great read. I read this book during summer vacation with my family years ago. Got me interest in UNIX, security, and networking.

The best book of all time I have read is "A New Earth - Awakening your life's purpose" by Eckhart Tolle.
It was life changing book and a spiritual guide that transfoms lives. If anyone hasn't read it, I highly recommend it for your summer reading!

I'm not sure how often people read books these days, but I'll mention The Hunger Games, even though I've never read it, just for the sake of entering the contest.
Good luck to all entrants.

It’s the 50th anniversary of the moon landing and one of the best books that describes the voyage of Apollo-8 — the mission that paved the way for the landing of Apollo-11. It was the first manned flight to leave the orbit of the earth that went 240,000 away to the moon.
