I was previously wiht SHAW , and even though I had no data BECAUSE I AM IN REMOTE Northern BC.

I was still able to receive SMS for things like Bank Login verification, I was still able to use WIFI calling to dial out and receive phone calls.

I made the transfer to Public Mobile yesterday from SHAW.

since then, it says NO NETWORK available when i try to WIFI call out and people are unable to call me. I am not receiving any SMS messages. when i go to Network - it does say PUBLIC MOBILE, No connection.

why is this?

i spoke wiht a 2nd employee at Telus who was NOT AWARE AGAIN that public mobile uses Telus towers. I had to explain to him very thoroughly . he kept asking "so you want to switch from Koodo to Telus, OH you want to switch from Public Mobile to Telus, Oh we dont work with Public MObile to switch to Telus, etc ..." it was quite funny.

Great ! yes i think maybe better to just go with a different provider!! thank you for your help!

I live in victoria which obvoiusly has services, but i frequently travel to rural places for work so i rely on Wifi Calling and SMS via that. It is not advertised whether WIFI calling comes with Public Mobile. Its actually not listed on Telus or Freedom's package but i did some research and only found out now that Bell, Rogers, Telus and Freedom are the only carriers who have WIFI calling which willl work for me in my situation.

thank you, i think this answers my question!! yes, i am always out of network zone due to work.  so its very important to me to have Wifi Calling services on my carrier!

@JulianYim34   If you have no cell service and only have access to wifi then maybe all you need is a free voip app like Fongo, which would give you a telephone number you can use for calls and texts over wifi.  You may have to pay a bit extra to be able to receive bank log-ins though.

@JulianYim34

We are ALL customers here like you. There is nobody here from Public Mobile on these boards. This is what this service is about. Did you not look into this cell provider before you signed up? To know how it works and if you had signal in your area?

As I've said, with Public, there is no wifi calling. If you're out of range of cell then Public has nothing for you.

i mean a place called Telegraph Creek

hello dust2dust,

i checked compared Shaw & Telus's coverage map. both did not have coverage to this area. I am in a place called Fort Ware. However, as ive said, with SHaw, i still had SMS & Wifi Calling feature

Now I am just on hold for 15 minutes or so waiting for someone to help :).

are you guys just helpful guys ? - i dont understnad this board. are there actual employees on here

Wifi calling also includes sms texting. It's a great service for this reason and also out of country. But it's not offered here. It simply sounds like you're out of cell range. Did you check the map?

JulianYim34

when i entered my phone # into that prompt, it says " there is no current activing porting service for this phone #"

Agree @dust2dust , doesn't sound like a porting issue, just closing the loop on the whole porting assistance number thingee.

@JulianYim34 , please let us know what they say about it, just for info.

i am in remote BC, even with shaw is 0 bars, no data network.

but i was still able to receive SMS, calls and outgoing calls as long as I had Wifi

I'm not sure this is a porting problem. Have you checked the coverage map link down below? Set your networks first to 4G LTE. Does anything work? Then try 3G WCDMA UMTS HSPA and see if anything works. How do the bars of reception look up top? Any? Full? Some?

That's ridiculous, @JulianYim34

It's absolutely a number utilized for Public Mobile porting issues.

Call again and remind them it's also for Koodo and Public Mobile porting related issues.   If they don't realize, perhaps ask for another individual.  (perhaps a 2nd call will reach a more seasoned representative...)

the person says they are from Telus and dont have access to public mobile

@JulianYim34

It's a porting assistance number, originally used for Koodo issues with porting.   Please note, they WILL NOT be able to assist with anything else at all - ONLY porting related issues.

Because Public Mobile shares the same system with Koodo pre-paid, they also share the porting assistance number.

Give it a shot, they may be able to assist IF you have a failed port.

Yes. These boards are your help. The bot is garbage! But that number is the number to call to get the help you need as I think your number didn't port across.

i didnt know Public Mobile has a phone number to call. i thought its only community boards and automatic bots

Ummm  call it? So they can help you?

There's no wifi calling here. What's the make and model of the phone?

Chalupa_Batman

It sounds like the porting didn't go through. I'll send you the porting phone number. Check your mail top right corner

Have you tried rebooting your phone? Is the SIM card entered correctly?
