Wi-Fi calling

Any idea if pupils mobile supports Wi-Fi calling? Their signal is really weak if none at my work place and I need to use Wi-Fi calling. I’ve just transferred my phone number today to join PM; but if Wi-Fi calling feature is no enabled, it is not worth it.

HI @WifiCalling

not horrible, it is just that only tier 2 and 1 carriers have Wifi calling offered.  Tier 3 is a no frills category, we don't have all the features like tier 2 or 1

Yea it's horrible that in 2024 public mobile "a sister company" of Telus, does not offer wifi calling.  Elon musk will have satellites working with LTE cell phones any day now and public mobile still can't provide wifi calling.  Honestly mind boggling

So, I clicked on "Turn WiFi calling on" in settings and I get an "error" saying "WiFi calling setup is currently not available"

thks for your help. Went back to Bell 100 gig $40/mth plus free wifi calling.  It is sad that it's an option and PM chooses to not make it available.  I liked PM and it's program. But competitive nature of the business suggests many more will leave just to have wifi calling and more gigs.

@brebestlife

not should be able to, PM is tier 3 mobile carrier, no tier 3 has Wifi calling.  That's the reason PM is cheaper and you pay more for Bell

should be able to, that's the thing that pisses me off. But no PM doesn't have it as an offering, even if the phone may show it as an option to turn on.

thks hun, went back to Bell 100 gig for $40/mth and I got wifi calling for free. So i should be able to get rid of my landline now too. saves me another $38/mth or so. Since my phone works inside my apt now.

@jmbjmb no, none of PM's direct competitor has Wifi Calling

but someone reported last week saying an agent told him Wifi calling will come soon

Can you add that feature? All your competitors offer it.

  • thanks.  left PM now with Bell enjoying my wifi calling and $40/mth 100 gig 5+ perfect timing.

@brebestlife sometimes Google is misleading if you don't click on it and read the whole thing

this is the link to the post your screenshot shows (which is in fact this exact thread)

Read it through and check the reply that earned the solution in the end:

Sorry, wi-fi calling is not available here at Public Mobile

To avoid more wrong info misleading others, I have added a note to the reply you pointed out

@brebestlife A link would be helpful, but in any case that's the community forum that you're in now. It's not an official channel for Public Mobile to communicate with us (although that may happen from time to time), it's full of customers just like you and I who are here to help each other. That was probably another customer posting misinformation.

It's not just probably misinformation.  It is misinformation.  There is and never has been Wi-Fi calling at Public Mobile.

where you see that ? do you mind to post the link or a screenshot?

@brebestlife As I said, Public Mobile does not offer Wi-Fi calling. You can use third party VOIP such as TextNow or Fongo; and you can use apps like WhatsApp and FCB Messenger to make calls over Wi-Fi, but you cannot make a wifi call from your Public Mobile phone number.

Where did you see that Public Mobile states otherwise?

public mobile says they support wifi calling so unsure why we dont have it working then

@Greg2024  We are just customers, but as far as I'm aware there are no plans for WiFi calling. But we wouldn't know until it rolls out, nor would front line staff you contact via direct message.

Any idea when wifi calling will be available from Public Mobile?

@IDontHaveANick This is a Public Mobile forum, not a Rogers forum. And this thread is about the availability of Wi-Fi calling at Public Mobile, not about billing questions at Rogers. I did attempt to answer the question, but the point was that the question needs to be directed to Rogers.

Yes, that is the big WiFi calling ripoff.  The wireless network is a finite resource that has very real costs for using.  WiFi very much less.  But they still ream you the mobile costs when you use WiFi.

But you shouldn't be surprised by that here in Canada.

The use for WiFi calling otherwise is to be able to make calls in areas with WiFi but no mobile coverage, and sadly those do exist with Public Mobile.  Lots of dead spots.

Why isn't this the place to ask that?  Where should it be asked?

This isn't the place to ask that, but I believe that's common for most carriers that have wifi calling. Same also goes for roaming fees I believe. Wifi calling is helpful to fill coverage gaps. E.g. maybe at home or at your cottage you don't have good cell reception, wifi calling can help so you can still make and receive calls.

Can someone educate me please. I have another phone with Rogers who support WIFI calling, but they still 'charge' the call time to my phone records, as though I was using the phone network. So what is the point of WIFI calling? Thanks, Tom.

When will public mobile enable wifi calling?  Seems like a pretty standard feature to have !!!!???

No, PM doesn’t support WiFi calling at the moment. Hopefully, they will implement it in the near future but for now, I don’t have any info regarding the feature.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it doesn't.

My comment to Beer was more about prompting him to try out his instructions in his own device as I sometimes suggest to regulars here to try out things before posting something erroneous. What he wrote is not useful for this service. It would be right if this service offered that. But then too, things can be changed in the systems here and they might not be noticed until somebody does try it out or stumbles across it. There can always be surprises.
