US Roaming Talk, Text and Data Not Working

Marcus2
Great Neighbour / Super Voisin

I purchased a $30 add-on for 15 days of talk and text and 3GB of data in the US. It does not appear to be working in Nevada.

I've tried the following:

  1. Turned on roaming.
  2. Confirmed that I paid for the add-on.
  3. Manually selected all listed networks (all connection attempts were unsuccessful).
  4. Turned on airplane mode for 30 seconds and then off letting the system automatically connect to a network.
  5. Restarted my phone.

All have not yielded any results. I noted one post that suggests asking a moderator. However, I'm not sure how to do this after sifting through the forum. If anyone could provide some guidance, I would greatly appreciate your help.

I had the same issues. I found that I had to switch my voice and data options to LTE. Settings - cellular - cellular data options - voice and data.

Have you checked out the cell mapper link? Very cool map. From what I can tell there is a lot of towers on the strip that carry 2G and 4G. What kind of phone do you have? Maybe that's the problem? Is it compatible? Or maybe your signal is being blocked by other large hotels or something?

@Marcus2   Just as a FYI, only the roaming options will be available for you to use while in the US.

The 500 LD international minutes can only be used when you are in Canada to the countries mentioned usually, although some customers have had success calling to countries not on any official list at PM.

@Marcus2 look like Vegas does not have stable connections even with 4G

try to buy local data sim for now

When you are back in Canada, open ticket with PM to request refund

@Marcus2  Unfortunately roaming in the US is hit or miss rose with voice , this is due to the fact US is getting rid of 3G service so makes for a spotty experience on some cases .. so customers have to rely on the 2G services of T mobile. For voice text and data should be fine when 4G /LTE is available through T mobile

Hi All,

Just wanted to thank you for your prompt responses. On forums, I usually assume I won't get an answer for a few days.

  1. @Handy1: My phone can't connect to T-Mobile
  2. @softech: My phone can't connect to T-Mobile. I double-checked the coverage for T-Mobile and I should have coverage.
  3. @hairbag1Marcus2_0-1677011013885.png I have the add-ons.

  4. @esjliv: I got the US add-on along with the $40 promotion plan which appears to have international minutes add-on. Maybe this is the situation. I'll submit a ticket. Thanks for showing me where to go.
  5. @treefrog: Urban area (Las Vegas).

Are you in an urban area or rural? Read this post by @darlicious  for more info on US roaming. There isn't a lot of coverage out in the desert only in the cities.

@Marcus2

Is this your first or second addon you purchased?

If this is the 2nd time buying this after your first one expired, the first one may not be fully expired yet. Plus you need to wait another 12-24 hours after it expires to buy the same addong (silly, I know). OR, buy a different bucket of roaming addon...

If you want the 2nd $30 to work, submit a ticket to CSA to have them activate it for you.

@Marcus2

here's where you'll see any add-ons including the 15 Day you bought. Log in to your account / Plan and Add-ons...look to the right side of page. Do you see mention of the add-on ? If not...it wasn't added successfully.

As far as customers experience, Nevanda might not have great 2G network for voice.  But you can still try to work on your LTE/4G network first

Make sure your Preferred network type or Network mode is set to Automatic, or anyone settings that include LTE or 4G

Try to see if your phone sees T-Mobile network and try to manually connect

Try in different part of the city and hope it is better

You can check the T-Mobile LTE coverage (for data) or GSM coverage (for voice) here and see if your city has T-Mobile coverage:
