No talk in SOME places in USA

Hello,

I frequently need to visit family in the USA. When I do, I always purchase a 15 day US Talk/Text/Data Roaming Add-On. However, the Talk service does not work reliably. In some geographic locations it works, and in some geographic locations it does not work at all. Here are the details:

  • I have had no issues with Data or with Texting while in the US. These work just fine.
  • I have had no issues making or receiving calls when in Manhattan, New York.
  • When in Seattle, Washington (or in Ohio) I cannot make or receive calls. When I place a call, the phone automatically hangs itself up immediately. When someone tries to call me, it sends them straight to voicemail.
  • My phone is compatible with VoLTE.
  • I found one similar issue that someone else has posted about, but the given solution was to switch to 2G or to T-Mobile. However, T-Mobile has good coverage in Seattle, and indeed I usually connect to that network, and this has not helped. Moreover, they have discontinued 2G coverage.

I will go to Seattle again for the December holidays. If anyone knows how to make the Talk work, please do share!

If I cannot make it work, I will have to switch providers. Making calls in Seattle is important to me.

Edit: I see my phone is not on the VoLTE whitelist. I guess I will have to switch providers. What a bother. Thank you everyone for the information!

Note plus 10 is not on the list.  It was Note 20 or above

only hope is to try using T-Mobile and set the network mode to 2G and maybe it will work

or you can use VoIP app (Fongo, TextNow) or app (Whatsapp, FB calls) to make calls

I see my phone is not on list. It’s Samsung note 10 plus.. so this means the voice scales won’t wrk in USA. Now not sure what I’ll do for future trips

I'm also curious what phone you're using, as Public Mobile is very finicky with which devices they will consider as VoLTE compatible.

Also in the past I found that I'd get better results by forcing my phone onto 4G/LTE vs 5G, as AT&T 5G was problematic at times. But if text and data is working, this may not be your issue.

@jeffjeff  your phone may be voLTE compatible but if it’s not in the PM voLTE white list voice will be difficult and your only option is setting phone to 2G/3G and connect to T mobile for voice calls as you already mentioned but won’t work everywhere’s unfortunately in the U.S.
