I have been using my phone number with public mobile for quite some time. Today, the number was changed. Not sure why. This caused all kinds of confusion for people I was texting and calling. It wasn't obvious on my end until I checked my phone number in my contacts. I have not lost any text history or contacts but I find this a little disconcerting. Does anybody know why a phone number all of a sudden gets changed?

@peteranddarlene - did you happen to start using a new phone recently?
If you are using a 'new to you phone', perhaps there is a number still registered on the phone you are using.
If the number you see on your self serve is still your number, listed under the Plans and Addons page, then it is something in your phone settings. If this is the case, deregister the phone number that is not yours.
If the number has changed on your self serve, and you have been a current customer for some time than see what the Public Mobile Customer Support Agents (CSA) says about this: https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/get-help/articles/contact-an-agent
Are all your services working, overwise...? Just to confirm, when in your self serve account go under the Change Sim Card option under My Profile and see if the last 4 digits of your SIM card match the the number listed there.
If they do not match, tell the CSAs this asap.

That's the last thing I need, for those very reasons!! So hopefully it isn't a glitch and if it is, it is one that gets rectified quickly... And permanently!!

This IS scary! Imagine people paying $70/month and using it for business either corporate or small business owner. Suddenly your boss cannot reach you, customers cannot reach you, when you call somebody they ignore you as unknown number is calling... Nightmare!

Actually your last line is a good idea. This is a known glitch of the number changing seemingly on its own. There is also a known glitch of Telus releasing active numbers into the available number pool. This might be a case of just that....the number changes when this error is made. The OP can get their number back once they contact customer support.

You mean, number has changed out of the blue?
Did you do any recent porting?
Does anybody has access to your account and accidentally fulled around and changed number?
Did you changed number not know what are you doing (no offence, please! just trying to figure out the cause)?
If all above is No, then either there is some nasty glitch on PM side or SOMEBODY got access to your PM account and screwed it up. As suggested, change your self-serving acct. password immediately!
How long did you have your phone number? Could be that it was floating in cyberspace as non-assigned and somebody just picked it up in due course of opening account at any mobile provider?
Just for fun, can you call your 'old' number and see who answers it ans see how they got your number?

Sometimes numbers get hijacked and then ported out as well, if they have the right info they do that as an identity theft thing. So definitely be diligent in protecting your other things/changing passwords, etc.

HI @peteranddarlene did you login to My Account and confirm the phone number showing there did change? The My Profile box on the front page should should you your current phone number.
If you see a different number there, then yes, open a ticket with PM CS agent and have them to further investigate

If your phone number was changed suddenly. I'd advise you to change your PM login password., as someone may have access to your account details.

I don't think so. But that is very interesting. I was hoping to talk with customer service but I got lost in space with the chatbot. 😞

Seems to me your phone number may be transferred as in ported to a different carrier. Have you received a suspicious text lately?
