Moved SIM to new iPhone

Is my SIM card corrupt? I moved my SIM card into my new iPhone 16 and seem to be struggling with WiFi randomly switching off. I have gone through numerous trouble shooting steps (including rebooting the router) and am still having no luck with a number of apps, including Gmail, Facebook and Instagram. In Settings, I see a notice saying, "Restore in Progress".  The home screen says "Location Access Needed", although the location services is ON.  VPN still seems to randomly switch on and off even though I turn it OFF. I believe the SIM card may be the problem but I do not know how to confirm.

@Mimi268  Take the sim card out and try wifi again.  A phone will work on wifi without any sim card, I do that all the time with a retired phone and also my iPad has no sim.  Wifi and cellular data are two different things and only cellular data depends on your sim card.

the Wifi and VPN both would work without data, so it sounds like not a sim card problem.

and the sim card still work perfectly on the old phone?

@Mimi268

if that PM sim works as expected in the original iphone, and you're experiencing issues only with new iphone...I think the PM sim is just fine. Some other process is giving you the heartburn.

hi @Mimi268

sim card usually doesn't not have too much problem.  And your Wifi and VPN  issue should have nothing to do with the sim card

Did you try using the phone without the SIM and see if the same issue there?  and if it happens often , wipe the phone and setup again

and since the phone is new, I would even look for returning it for replacement

@Mimi268  You could try taking the SIM card back out of phone and lightly wiping the contacts down with cloth and put back in the phone and reboot the device or reset network settings and see if that helps . But if calling texting and data work , then that means there no issues with public mobile service and your wifi has nothing to do with public mobile that’s your home internet providers issue

also @Mimi268  iPhone has  feature called wifi assist be sure to turn that off , when it’s on and at home on wifi it can still use your cellular data when the signal not the best , with wifi assist in my iPhone and at home in the basement or garage it switches of and on to cellular data. So I just turn it off and that stops the phone from struggling to decide to use wifi / cell data and just uses the wifi instead unless I’m to far away from wifi connection
