I don’t have service

Jesseford

I got my Sims card and I followed the steps I troubleshot everything and it’s still not working just wondering why

41 REPLIES 41

@esjliv   I checked the IMEI on behalf as OP posted a screenshot.

I checked both, one blacklisted and the other one not

It is normal only one being blacklisted.  The carrier will only report the SIM that was on their record, the one people used with the SIM card to connect to that network.

and yes, people could still use the other "slot" as a workaround

@Jesseford

If your girlfriend bought the phone from telus was it new or CPO? If it was CPO or even an open box device then it's possible to be certified but gets reported by the original buyer, a device insurance company or even an original account holder that the phone was first registered on for service could have asked for it to be blacklisted long after the phone was traded in, returned, exchanged etc....and then listed on the blacklist.

Your girlfriend has to contact telus and find out why it was blacklisted (in error?) and prove that she is the legitimate owner of the phone and have it removed from the list (takes up to 72 hours).

@esjliv

A telus "branded" phone gives them the opportunity to impose certain restrictions on phones according to their own policies without necessarily disclosing it to the customer. The bf bought a legitimate Sonim XP-8 second hand from the original owner. Perfect a dual SIM phone so he could use his sim card and then when needed he could use my spare data account sim card as well.

Until we try both sim cards in the phone and only sim card 1 will work. Then take sim card 1 out and suddenly sim card 2 starts working. More troubleshooting until someone here points out the small print somewhere on the telus site that they disable the dual SIM function in these phones despite advertising it as a dual SIM phone. Sure it's a dual SIM phone but you can only use any one sim card slot at any one time so if the OP had this phone and one IMEI is blacklisted you have a spare one to use?!!

It also leads to the ridiculous 3 year warranty that comes with the phone that unless you are the original owner with the same provider that you purchased the phone from can you then get warranty service. So we discover this after the bf splinters a spider web of cracks on the screen so he finds out they won't honour the warranty. Alright we will just pay for the screen replacement. No he's not the original owner so he can't get approved repair service thru the provider and Sonim won't supply the replacement screen unless it is ordered by an approved service center with a certified technician. You can't even get the part on eBay or aliexpress or any online site....even fraudsters don't sell replacement Sonim parts.

Needless to say the Sonim XP-8 isn't much of a rugged phone as it failed the bf test badly and then warranty fails the bf test as well, the manufacturer with their rigid parts supply policy and finally telus themselves for conveniently omitting the shortcomings of the phone that they disabled.

So who knows what errors intentional or otherwise that telus has enabled or disabled on the OP's phone. Hopefully they recognize and admit their mistake and dont make it harder than necessary for the gf to get the IMEI removed from the blacklist.

OK I shut it off for a few minutes I reset the network settings I turned off the airplane mode and turned it back on I manually tried to put it to public mobile for the carrier this is a new phone it’s unlocked still not working it’s not blacklisted

@Jesseford  - Hold on, you said it wasn't blacklisted?

Did you not actually check in the devicecheck.ca website the first time; OR,were you checking another IMEI number on the device (the 2nd SIM slot one)?

I know there are different IMEI numbers on dual SIM slot phones, so I am curious - if you check one and it was not on the list, but secondary IMEI on the phone can be listed?

I would think if one is listed, they both would be, wouldn't it?

 @softech : gsmarena suggests the China version has dual-SIM. But we've gathered that the phone was bought from Telus.

@Anonymous wrote:

 @softech : Isn't that eSIM?

@Anonymous   Could be.. but I searched via https://www.imei.info/
it said 2 slots of nano sim.  of course, the database there could be wrong

@Jesseford wrote:

does that have 2 sim slot?  I didn't some search and it shows it has 2 nano SIM slots.   Does it? or just one nano or eSim?

if there are 2 nano sim slot, try the other slot, it should work

 @softech : Isn't that eSIM?

 @Jesseford : But is the device balance fully paid?

So I did a little searching and found the CWTA which has a recognized blacklist checker that links to...devicecheck.ca.

If this phone was properly purchased from Telus by your gf ,  call Telus support and understand why it was on the blacklist and see what you can do to remove it.

@Jesseford   it looks like yous is a dual SIM phone?  If so, put the PM SIM in the other slot.  The  IMEI on the other slot is clean

My gf says she bought it from Telus

@Anonymous

I wonder if it could be the provider won't check again the database daily.. maybe the system just check it when the phone first show up on the system.   Or something they only do every xx days.  So, while you are in Rogers and then your phone blacklisted after, maybe you can still use your phone, ate least for xx more days...

But whenever you phone first time show up on a provider , then it will check

just my guess

We saw something like this a couple days ago. devicecheck said blacklisted but a Rogers SIM worked fine. So it would seem that maybe some providers don't recognize devicecheck. Or devicecheck isn't really valid.

There oughta be a nationally recognized database that all providers would recognize and adhere to. How can it be that one provider blocks it while others let it in?

@Jesseford   But this has nothing to do with PM.  PM likely not the one putting your phone on the list

which provider you used it with?

did you buy your iPhone from trusted souce?

Unless you bought it from a provider and you can settle it with them, it is hard to get your phone off the list.  So, very likely you need to shop for new phone.

We have had it on a provider before never had this problem at all

No was my gf old phone

@Jesseford   Sorry, with your screenshot,  I tried the device status and confirmed that your phone is blacklisted.  That's why it is not working with PM network:

You can check it again with your first IMEI number here and you will get the same result:

https://www.devicecheck.ca/check-status-device-canada/

Where did you get your phone from?  And you said it used on Telus before?  Did you buy from them?  did you clear your phone bill from them before porting?

@Jesseford  thanks for the pic.  But  you don't want to post the IMEI, please go to your image library and delete it,

You phone has the Correct Carrier profile , so it is connecting to the PM network.

You said you cannot even make calls?

It’s a iPhone 11 it says no sim restrictions is what it says

@Jesseford   if it was used on Telus before, it will work

What brand /model is your phone?  LG?

Also, what is showing on the phone status?  it would help to figure out what's wrong

Jesseford
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

The phone used to be with Telus it’s unlocked it even shows up on my phone as public mobile as one of the carriers they can connect to every time I hit it it puts a little blue check by it but I get no service the phones unlocked everything is clean and clear I’ve done all the trouble shooting that I have been instructed to do and I’m still getting nothing

@Jesseford   What brand/model is your phone?

was the phone ever used on another network? which network?

what is showing on the phone status?  "Sim not provisioned"?  "No SIM"?  "No network"?

Are you living within area serviced by the network?

@Jesseford  - I would probably submit a ticket to CSA, and do the rebooting once in a while, hopefully it just starts for you.

@Jesseford  - good job with trying all these checks!

Can you try the Public Mobile SIM card in the other SIM slot. Reboot, then see what happens?

Also, check for any IOS updates for the device, if you need any, update the software.

Perhaps, review soft and hard (may not need to get to this) reset steps: https://www.t-mobile.com/support/tutorials/device/apple/iphone-11-pro-max/topic/settings-amp-tech-sp...
