I am not receiving text messages for verification codes

Several businesses, Amazon and my bank are trying to send verification codes by text to my phone but I am not receiving them.  Other text messages are working.

@LesBell1 - I am tempted to say it is network related since there are more than one short code not working today. But since your other services are working, it is odd.

There could be something preventing these short codes from communicating on a network level, hopefully this works soon today.

 

Did you try a reset of the device's network settings, to help trigger something?

 

Perform a Reset of your device's Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, VPN and APN settings, and connected Bluetooth devices that you've used before.

Find and tap Settings > System > Advanced > Reset options > Reset network settings.

 

 

You could also try your SIM card into another phone (if you have one) and try it that way.

Okay I cleared the cache from both the messaging and phone apps.  When I tried my bank again, their text verification did not come through.

try to delete cache for both messaging and phone app

 

this is the general steps, could be slightly different from different brands and Android version

  1. Open the app drawer.
  2. Tap the Settings app.
  3. Scroll down and tap on Apps.
  4. Scroll down and tap on your Messaging App.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear data.

(repeat above for phone app)

 

Also, if you are going out today, try to receive the 2FA in different area, could be local network issue

I am getting regular texts without a problem.  How do I delete cashe in an android?

@LesBell1   if you have an android , try to delete cache and reboot the phone once

 

and are you getting regular text without problem?

No, the phone and the phone number has been activated for some time.  Nothing has changed.  Everything is working but text messages from Amazon and my bank with a verification code, when I try to log in to those accounts, are not arriving.

edit, have you tried:

  • restart your phone
  • toggle into and out of airplane mode
  • perform a Reset of the device's Network Settings

@LesBell1  those 2FA codes are shortcodes. 

 

If you activated and ported your number recently, the 2FA code will start coming after around 2 days.  However, it will take as many as 7 days for all 2FA codes to successfully arrive.  (It takes time for different systems to realize your number is hosted by a different carrier and to route the text correctly to your new provider)

Did you recently port your number to PM? If yes, it might take up to 7 days for all routes to be established with your number.

No it is not a new account.  This just started today.

@LesBell1 - if this is a new activated account then it will take about maybe a week to get the short codes to be successfully routed to your new account.
