How to take advantage of promo plans as existing user

Bradoyo1

Hello,

Is it possible to get on one of these $34/month 20gb at 4G or $40/month 30gb at 5G plans as an existing user? Fine print says only for new activations.

I have been with Public for a while and am not offered such promotions, and would like to upgrade to a better monthly plan than what I currently have (15gb for $40/month at 4G). My 4G service is really not great and get low bars in most places.

how do I go about this while not losing my number, and rewards?

thanks!!

When I checked, it wasn't in the list. I refreshed the page, and it appeaered.  The Public Mobile cache issues strikes again!

Changing plan will not affect your service level. If you're getting poor reception, that will continue after a plan change. Even now you can try cycling between 3G, 4G, and 5G to see which gives you the best signal. You do not need to be on a 5G plan to connect to the 5G network, for example.

As for accessing the new customer promos, the nice thing about PM is that you're not locked in. You can port out at any time and then port back in as a new customer. You just need to do the math to see if the loss of any current loyalty or other discounts would be worth it. For me it wouldn't, hence I'm still getting a better deal as an existing customer (even if the sticker price looks better on the surface).

@Bradoyo1  "So it would be best to do this at the end of a billing cycle and use up your credits before doing so?"

If you are just changing plan you will keep your rewards and phone number and you can select to either change plan immediately or change on next renewal.  Change on next renewal is the best because then you don't lose what you already paid for the current plan.  If a better plan comes up before renewal you can cancel the change and go with the better one.  It only gets more complicated if you are trying to sign up as a new customer to get a new activations only plan.

How much is it all worth to you? I think the loss of dollar rewards is the worst part. I would be wary of a 90 day plan right now because there may be nice plan offerings later next month and then the end of December. Whether they would be for existing customers is the question of course.

So it would be best to do this at the end of a billing cycle and use up your credits before doing so?

@Bradoyo1 "You need a new sim for a different plan?"

No, you don't need a new sim, you just select the new plan and the existing sim will work.  I think the $0 for an e-sim is for new customers and that it is $5 for existing customers.  I personally would not change because a physical sim can just switch phones whereas with the e-sim you have to buy another sim if you switch phones.

The upgrade from 4G to 5G was also a main reason for switching though. We seem to get poor service fairy often on the current plan

@Bradoyo1

Take @mojorising and my advice. Do the 90 days and you'll pay what you wanted to pay without losing legacy rewards or anything.

You need a new sim for a different plan? Does this mean the upgrade will take however long the sim takes to arrive i. The mail?

You can’t just request the new plan and use existing sim?

what’s the $0 e-sim?

Brilliant! I was thinking the same thing searching through plans and saw this. Came back and you thought the same thing. Good idea!!

, and rewards?

That's the key there. You can't. You can always sign up as many new accounts as you like though. If you didn't have much to lose then you could port out your number and back in to the new account. Costs you two new sims and a month of other service. But not keeping rewards.

You won't lose your number or rewards. the closest that they have to the $34/month 20gb is the 90-day plan for existing customers, if you don't mind paying $102 upfront minus the 30 days rewards that will be applied.

Sadly, there is no way. HOWEVER, if I remember correctly, that should have been corrected in the announcement.

Nope. It was only for these plans. Sadly there really is no way to keep your rewards and then get this new plan. You'll just have to keep your eyes open for a close enough offer.

There's this plan. Pretty much what you want but you have to pay 90 days up front and you won't lose your legacy rewards.
