How do I know if my phone will work on the Public Mobile network?

Retraité / Retired

Public Mobile works on following frequencies:

  • For 3G use (UMTS/HSPA): 850MHz/1900MHz bands
  • For 4G/LTE use: 1700MHz/2100MHz bands
  • For 4G/LTE use: 700 MHz band

Which means most of the 3G,4G HSPA/ LTE phones that are compatible with these frequencies will work on Public Mobile. If your phone is locked to specific carrier, you’ll have to get it unlocked.

Phones compatible with Telus, Koodo, Bell, Virgin will work on Public Mobile network. All 3G, 4G phones from Rogers, Fido and ChatR are compatible and will work on the Public Mobile network.

To verify if you phone will work on Public Mobile network click here results in Error 404 – Gone, but not forever We’re sorry, but this page is currently unavailable. Please check back again soon. Link is dead.

@CuterNSweett

Public Mobile uses the following frequency bands:

4G LTE and LTE Advanced: 700 MHz, 850 MHz, 1900 MHz and 2100 MHz downlink and 1700 MHz uplink (AWS).
HSPA: 850 MHz, 1900 MHz (UMTS).

4G = B2 (1900), B4/B66 (2100 or 1700), B5 (850), B7 (2600), B12/B17 (700), B13 (700), B29 (700-Suppl. DL), B30 (2300)
3G = B2(1900) B5 (850)

Your spec looks ok to me.  Which specific phone (brand and model) you have in mind?

Hey!

If you are concerned about it or have hesitations, take your phone to a place that can set it up for you (like London Drugs, they are amazing!) and answer all your questions in person. They are usually quite knowledgeable and willing to help.

This is what I did and it really helped me chose PM. Plus, I had a really good experience.

@waternlava yes. There's no issues with those specs.

It's a new one and not listed there...

About frequencies I'm a bit confused

Thanks for your answers!:) I'll take something else

Will it work?

I would stay away from this phone.

With only B5 on 3G/WCDMA even the call function can be compromised (you'd want B2 (1900) as well as B5 (850).

On 4G only B7 is overlapping with the Telus/Public Mobile frequencies. (B4 is in widespread use for data in Canada).

The 2G/GSM frequencies would only work on the Rogers network, Bell/Telus network does not support that technology.

It might, but if you don't already have it, I would advise against purcahsing this device.   As this phone lacks WCDMA 1900MHz (Band 2), this phone is not very good for use in Canada.

Or look at top of page and click "Get Started"...Check your phones compatabilty to see if your phone will work here

You need to look for the protocol and the frequency together. I was just looking at one source. Check with LG themselves to corroborate.

If your device is locked to any other provider than Koodo or Telus, you will have to take the phone to the last carrier service it was on and have them unlock it.

Information on gsmarena suggests it should be fine.
