Going to America tomorrow and I’m so confused by my current plan

Hey all,

I see this question has been asked before but I see conflicting info in the answers. I’m going to the states tomorrow and I currently have the plan that says “Unlimited Canada-US wide minutes and messaging plus unlimited international text and picture messaging.”

I originally got this thinking I could call America from Canada without paying for long distance there, but apparently that’s not the case.

Will I be covered during my trip to call and text my American friends there without having to get a roaming add on? Also, what about data? Do I have to buy a data roaming package?

thank you and apologies. This is one of the worst worded packages. Haha!

HI @Littleleah78

yes, that is the line you want and that confirmed you have a Canada-US plan!!1

@Littleleah78

you can enable Data Roaming and just leave it on. PM is a prepaid service...you won't be billed later on for any overages or extra anything. Mine has been enabled since 2017.

I have an iPhone 14.

looks like days is included. I can see plan details on a desktop but not my phone. Says 50GB within Canada and US. If my phone is covered I’ll look into turning on roaming. Thank you.

Yes, I have seen your replies elsewhere but I’m not a snowbird. So I don’t know what a “true plan” means. Also, nowhere in my plan does it say data extends to America. So I’m leery there. Thanks for the help tho.

he just meant that many snowbirds subscribe to that plan as they can call most any Cdn / US number while in USA. If you log in to your account / Subscription...can you see if your plan is a Canada / US plan ? If so, you should have no problem calling / texting /using data while in US. Let us know what make / model the cellphone is and we can let you know for sure.

added...does it look something like this ? If so, you can use your cellphone in US, just like you would in Canada.

HI @Littleleah78

iPhone 14 is VoLTE enabled on PM.  So, an easy answer for  you is if you have the Canada US plan, you will have no issue with voice or text or data

No clue what a PM VOLTE is. I have an iPhone 14. I have read everything in my account and the plan and it’s super limited info. What I posted in my question is what I can see. It’s limited and frustrating.

if you want, post a screenshot of your plan details and maybe we can confirm if it is a Canada US plan

Yes, I have seen your replies elsewhere but I’m not a snowbird. So I don’t know what a “true plan” means. Also, nowhere in my plan does it say data extends to America. So I’m leery there. Thanks for the help tho.

HI @Littleleah78

from the wordings of what you posted, look like you have a Canada-US plan, so it should work.   But if you check My Account again, go to Subscripton and check if it talks about Canada and US data

if you have the correct Cnaada-US plan, make sure you turn on Roaming mobile data when you are there, and connect to T-Mobile or AT&T or Verizon

and what phone you have? voice will work if you have a phone on PM's VoLTE whitelist

@Littleleah78

If you have the Canada/USA plan it should work for calling and texting to your friends in the USA from Canada.

It should also work in both countries for data without extra roaming charges.

Make sure you have Roaming and VoLTE enabled in your phone settings. You may have to manually connect to AT&T or T-Mobile network.

@Littleleah78  Yes that’s a true snow bird plan   It’s has roaming built into it no need to lay for anything extra . you can call to and from each country using talk text and data . When in the U.S. make sure you have data roaming turned on in phone settings . And set phone to 4G/LTE not 5G and make sure your connected to T mobile AT&T or Verizon
