5G Data speed

Raheel672

I just switched over to 5G US-CAD plan. Data speed haven't improved much, only uploading shows a little better but downloading is still around 50-75Mbps. How is the experience of others?

Haha okay. The Big 3 are costly, no doubt. That is why people go for flanker brands or Tier3 brands

Oh wow!

Never happened with me, anywhere, where I have paid $0 for phone bill. Good for you that you are making the best use of the sim and benefits, which come with it!

Thanks for sharing 🙂

hi @Shubh2023 yeah, 5G+ is just Telus way to sell more expensive plans, not really a technology

@Shubh2023  Sure is check this out . It’s why I love PM so much

Yeah, thanks for the input!

I will keep them in mind & move ahead accordingly. I feel like this small amounts which we can save through a lot of rewards from PM, it is kinda deal-breaker for many! So, it is better to think and do something about it!

@Shubh2023  Absolutely . There’s 20GB for $39 opt in for 90 day and pay $102 upfront with 60GB for 90 days works out to $34 a month only 4G speed but unbeatable price for that much data if you need more then 5G way to go

I might get the 40-45 dollar plan, with 30 gigs, with PM, for a few months, maybe

What do y'll think? You know, just to try out the 5G and then, go down to anything below 30 + slowly, you can reduce your bill as well, so, it's a win-win for people who want to reduce the $ from phone expenses!

Oh that's nice. Atleast 600 is quite good tbh ngl

PM is working on it. They can really make it more easier for all of us. I am soon changing from a competitor brand to PM, once I pay off the 📱 and that is what is stopping me from doing it rn

I pay like 55+ for 50 gigs, but, still, I feel it's costly and soon, after my grad, I may not use so much of data so, switching should be good.

@Shubh2023  I have a Telus 5G+ plan and it only shows 5G in my iPhone 14 pro max . But when I do speed test I only get 6-7 hundred mbs

asd with PM 5G I get  257mbs

Shubh2023

Well, it was with Telus though! I guess it was a 5G+ plan, but, I was getting 5G only on my phone, as I could not see the 5G+ on the screen.

Nevertheless, I am hopeful, pretty quickly, we might get the bang-for-the-buck, if they keep improving the services and make the plans cheaper for everyone.

Well, I got the speed with Telus, like one to two months back, but right now, it might have improved, considering the companies always keep on updating their infrastructure and the services in various places. I have heard some from someone, that in Toronto, the Telus speed and the other competitors speeds are increasing a lot i.e., more than 900 Mbps

So I am hopeful that we might get it here in Vancouver pretty quick because the West coast needs to improve and we do really get like network issues, once you go towards the Northern BC

hi @Shubh2023 600Mbps is really good, you got the 5G+ plan? but PM 5G maxesd out at 250Mbps.

So, what I saw with Telus, in Vancouver, it is quite good in train station or bus stops, but, once you go home, it slows down.

I don't have this now, but, I tested with Telus, it went till 600 Mbps and it seems good, as it is almost the speed of home internet out here if you take a gig-internet plan

I have no idea about Vancouver yet, as I have not yet tested the 5G, but, from what I have seen from other 5G out here, Vancouver does not have a lot of speed, maybe due to congestion, and mostly 4G seems to be predominant!

Will post here, when I try PM 5G in Vancouver.
Cheers : )

HI @Raheel672

you have good speed there

yes, I hope we will get more stable 5G as they roll out more 5G towers

So here is updated test from another area in Brampton. Seems like my area(north west brampton) is too congested. Speed crossed 250Mbps.

5G and 5G+ enable theoretical peak download speed of up to 1.7 Gbps* in cities, towns and communities across Canada for an incredible mobile experience (average expected speeds between 80-556Mbs

Then Median speeds: first quarter of 2023, the iPhone 14 Pro Max was the fastest 5G-capable phone in Canada, based on its median download speed of 148.75 Mbps on a 5G network. Top 5 phones made by Apple and Samsung.

I been asking questions, reading, texting and learning here for evaluation.

I accepted this as a solution recently. So much confusion and uneducated expectations. 5G is a name coming in various speeds and network is secondary after plan speeds. Basically seeing a 5 is not ensuring a better speed. Any plan 3G,4G,5G can be operating in a 5G phone and 4G,5G networks but the plan max data speed is the pipe capacity controled by Telus.

US is different for sure. I was getting faster speeds on T-Mobile's 4G plan. We don't expect 1GB here but it should atleast exceed 100mb.

@Circus Telus also markets 5G+ speeds up to 1000Mbps. On PM we're intentionally capped at 250Mbps though, which seems fair based on this being a tier 3 brand.

@Circus cs_agent is needed for any account specific help, but I've seen countless times where they've given out incorrect information. Keep in mind most of them are probably given an employee benefit on Telus phone/service, so they likely don't have first hand experience with the PM brand. They're entry level employees who don't spend all their time geeking out on this stuff like we do 😛

@Raheel672 There are many things that could affect that, including signal strength and network congestion. I personally get better speed on the 4G network than the 5G network (with a 5G plan). I've heard that the 5G bands have a harder time penetrating walls, so that may be my issue. Either way I get 5G speeds on the 4G network, so all is good for me. I previously suggested trying to connect to the 4G network to see if results improve.

Raheel672
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Ok but max speed on avg went down on the 5G plan. Just interesting observation

@Raheel672 That's because you still get access to the 5G network. 3G plans also get access to the 5G network. Your 4G plan is just the max speed PM will give you on any of those networks.

Raheel672
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Yes, wierd thing is that even when I was on the 4G plan, it mostly indicated 5G on my phone

@Circus Ask them what? I would take the advice of an Oracle over @CS_Agent any day. And I'll give you first hand experience to backup what the Oracle in this case said.

5G in the context of plans being marketed at PM is just that, marketing. All plans (3G, 4G, and 5G) have access to all networks, including 5G. PM may throttle 3G plans at 3Mbps, 4G plans at 100Mbps, and 5G at 250Mbps, but that does not mean those are max speeds for any of those networks. I've personally got upwards of 250Mbps on the 4G network with my 5G plan.

Raheel672

Yes I will do some more tests on different t locations and than report back and may open a ticket with PM. Just wanted to get opinion from others first.

It better be, on S23
