Introducing Public Points Rewards

Public Mobile
Public Mobile

Hey Community,

We are happy to announce the launch of Public Points!

Starting on January 25, 2022, Public Mobile customers who activate, will automatically be part of Public Points. This means that customers who activated prior to January 25, 2022 will remain on old Public Rewards without any change to the way or amount earned. Don’t worry, these customers can still join Public Points.

HI @sunflowershine

Yes, most of us who are in the old system will stay.  I think less than 5% of current customer will actually jump onto the new system.

Thanks for the calculation sheet. Everyone is different. I will stay in the old system...

For now, I'm not going no where. Rewards ftw!

Thanks everyone, I understand now.  Everything is good.

@s_shard

No you are ok everyone has a new rewards account. You sign in with your self serve log in. There is a link in there for the new points program that you can sign into but I'm avoiding it like the plague because a couple of customers checked it out and accidently signed up for the points program and once that happens there is no going back.

Thank you very much!  Yes, I am still on the old program.

I saw the "new rewards location" and was scared to login.

@s_shard, you haven't been switched.  All rewards are in a different portal now, it is the same login as your self-serve.  Unless you have clicked saying you want to join the new points program you are still on the old program

Please Help: When I login to my account it looks like I have been switched to the new program.  I'm aware of the faulty email but this in my real account.

When I login and look where my rewards used to be, it says: "Rewards has a new home! You'll now be able to access your rewards by visiting "My Rewards""

Does this mean I have automatically been switched to the new program?  I clicked on the link and it asked me to login.  I stopped because I do not want to be switched to the new program.

I never consented to be switched to the new program and want to stay on the old program.

@BearFBI

Sounds like u may benefit from switching plan from $25/$30/$35 to $15.  Do your math again and becareful before switching to point system, there is no way back.

If so, use your point carefully, as u will only get 5% + referral points + community + anniversary.  Points cannot be purchased.

Looks like the company has moved onto its new pitfall stage - much-ado-with-no-results.

I personally won't be switching cause I need to save wherever I can, this doesn't end in me saving if I switch.

Well if there's one good thing out of this is that you included a calculator for folks to easily see how they'll get less back using this new program vs. they're current program, without having to do the math themselves.

For existing customers I don't see how any of them would switch, but I'm sure this looks cool for new customers.

@killer23d

That's the typically B S answer the other customers recieved. I would escalate your support request.

@Anonymous

This regards a bonus recurring monthly plan data promo that pm coded incorrectly. What would customers think if the current 2GBBONUS promo wasn't used until the holiday bonus data add ons were used first? This could be a CCTS complaint because pm is not delivering on what they promised in the promotion. Should @killer23d  choose to pursue it they would win their complaint. At this point if it was me I would escalate and ask not only that the bonus add on data be reset but ask for a 5gb add on to be added to my account as well for poor customer support given so far and unrelated to the nature of the complaint the fact that the accidental switch to the points program has already penalized the customer. The CSA should have been willing to work with the customer to at least investigate their legitimate complaint about the promotion.

The only reason I haven't tagged Jade is I want @killer23d  to have not given away his hand and have the full weight of a possible CCTS complaint influencing pm's decision on fixing the coding  issue for every customer affected and the compensation given to the customers account.

@killer23d

Maybe a $5/500min add on as well as a 5gb bonus add on.....lol....Im feeling particularly vengeful today!👺

I won't be switching over to points because they won't deduct the points from your bill, if you want to pay your bill with points you have to do it manually every month.

 @killer23d : Booster is Koodo-speak ... spit cough 🙂 They're called add-ons around these parts. 🙂

killer23d
Great Citizen / Super Citoyen

My plan was a promo plan back at Aug 2020, it's $35 with 1.5GB + 500MB bonus.

Roll over data is something in the US, but in Canada well.. they want it reset every month.

After reviewing my in-law needs, I think she can go with $15 that gets 250MB, then the reset will be deducted from the freebie data add-on. I can buy a booster to cover for any short with points, and the booster doesn't expire.

@killer23d wrote:

 What are we talking about here ?

I read somewhere on reddit that addons are discounted now. 1GB is now 10$, making the 15$ plan really attractive. If I switch to Public Points I would most likely move down to the 15$ plan then buy 1GB addons as I need.

Some months I go way over 1Gb and some I barley use it. Roll over data would save me a ton of money even with the loss I would take on loyalty rewards. I still think I won't switch, its too early to tell and cannot be reversed. Who knows, maybe the 25$ plan is getting a data boost.....

But now this recurring 500mb you're taking about, what is that ?

Anonymous

 @killer23d : There seems to be some cross-over of questions (or more likely I'm not getting it). For my interests, I  don't really care what data bucket it wants to pull from. But that's just me.Although if I ever run out of data in my "data" account and abandon it and just use my main account then I will examine whether data is being drawn from paid data or free data. But that's still well into the future. Another time.

But I do think that in order to preserve those minutes to other countries in the gift add-ons where I also have a specific country add-on that is also covered by the gift add-on...calls should draw out of the specific country add-on. I just think that's proper. I would keep on that tack. But that's just me.

killer23d
Great Citizen / Super Citoyen

@darliciousRegarding the programming error.. Here's what they say:

In regards to your question, please note that there is not a particular order, and the data add-ons are being used by a randomly chosen add-on among all of the add-ons.

Basically, 500MB is a recurring $0 add on that will never be used unless all other add-ons are exhausted.

In this case I will be dropping the plan to $15 and let it use up all the data.

This morning I checked the reward site, I now have 36 points (5 signup bonus + 31 loyalty).

@ziojoe wrote:

My question now, is how long before the old plan is scrapped and we are forced to switch?

Nobody can answer your question. It could be old plan will stay grandfathered forever or it will be overnight switch.

You have no choice as it is up to company to decide what is the best for them.

I had credit card with 4% cash back; worked well for few years. Then bank decided to lower it to 3%. And what can I do? I can leave or accept the change.

Same will be here. If you do not like rewards at certain point of time you could look for another provider.

But I assume we are NOT here because of some kind of rewards?????

Low rates, customers support customers, reliable network is what counts for me...

How do you know There's a discount of 25-50%

ziojoe

Oh yeah that too, lol. Didn't miss it, just forgot to mention it.

My question now, is how long before the old plan is scrapped and we are forced to switch?

darlicious

@gail709

It's not. You can stay with the regular rewards program. New customers get no choice they are automatically enrolled in the Public Points program. The advantage new customers get that we don't is the ability to redeem points for discounted add ons between 25% to 50% off the regular price.

Even if it is 10 points per year that is equal to $10 per year...you are already getting $1 per month or $12 per year. Not a good deal.

gail709
Great Citizen / Super Citoyen

It's a very confusing program.  As I read it I am currently getting $2 per month for autopay.  On the new plan I will be getting .075 points = .75cents.  How is this better for us?

ziojoe
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

For Anniversary: is that 10 points each year? ie. 10 points at the end of one year, 20 points at the end of two years etc. ie. not just 10 points as each year goes by.

This is a good point....

Unless you want to gamble in the contests or plan to leave in a couple months (cashing in on the welcome rewards) this is an inferior rewards plan(unless the 10 anniversary points are cumulative) and if you have been with Public mobile a long time and got a huge signup bonus for all the months you have been here.  (I only had 7 months)

If you are in for a year or less with $25/bill plan you will break even around 2.5 years and start saving alot with the old rewards program.

If you have been with Public mobile for more than a year or have a more expensive plan, keep in mind you would be losing out on your loyalty savings so it would likely work out about the same.

This does not include community points or referral points since they haven't really changed and would affect your plan equally.

TL:DR

For example.  I have the basic $25 plan, Currently, I get $2 every 30 days for autopay.  Year 1 = $276

With the new plan, I get $1.25 per month, plus signup 5 points plus 10 points at anniversary and other one time bonuses (27)  Year 1 = $243

New plan savings $33

The following year I would get $1 more off my plan every 30 days.  Year 2 = $264

New points still $1.25/bill and 10 points Year 2 = $275

New plan savings = -$9 (Loss)

Year 3 an additional $1 off per bill  Year 3 = $252

New points no change  Year 3 = 275

New plan savings = -$21 (Loss)

Year 4 an additional $1 off per bill Year 4 = $240

New plan Year 4 = $275

Loss of $35

Year 5 max reduction $5 total, Year 5 = $228

New plan Year 5 = $275

Year after year savings $47 with old plan.
