HI @cwj_lopez03
yes, with iPhone, you need Apple or the original carrier to unlock it for you. Let's say, that is the only way and if you cannot have it unlocked, you won't be able to use it on any Canadian provider here, don't waste $5 to try

its an iphone so its hard to look for someone who unlocks it and too costly. might just get a cheap phone then. thanks so much!

HI @cwj_lopez03
no way to check for carrier lock unless you test it on the eSIM, which has a cost
However, I did some research on your case, and pretty sure once a phone is carrier locked, both Physical and esim are locked. So, you really need to get it unlocked
is that an iPhone or Android?

i hope there is a way to check before actually purchasing the esim. because usually from where the phone was bought. if the phone isnlocked to a certain carrier, the 2nd sim is usually open line.

If the phone is locked...the esim isn't gonna work either. You can either get a cheap Cdn phone or contact old cell provider to unlock that phone. Depending where you are...there's inexpensive Cdn cellphones avialble at Mobile Klinik. Also check used / refurb'd at Best Buy.

If your phone is locked by a carrier then it won’t work with eSIM either.
You need to get it unlocked first before you can anything with the phone.

@cwj_lopez03 You can also get a new physical SIM card from Telus Koodo or Amazon and SIM card swap the number in your account profile page or get support to help you do it
SIM SWAPPING profile tabs
Note only do this on lap top or computer/ not mobile device

HI @cwj_lopez03 if the phone is carrier locked, I think eSIM will be locked, too. So, eSIM would not be a solution.
did you check with that carrier and see if they can provide you the unlocked code for free?
Or maybe buy unlock code online if it is Android

yes because one of my problem is my phone is locked to my carrier in the philippines. hence i cannot use the physical card. so i would need an esim

you sure you wanna do that ? What if you need a new phone in the future ? You can't just transfer esim to new phone...you'd need to buy a new esim whereas hard sim can be used on any currently available cellphone in Canada.

@cwj_lopez03 You would need to log into your account using the app with phone you want the eSIM on and go to subscription add on page . Notice at the bottom says shop sim select it and choose eSIM download and install
