The message is "long distance charges may apply".
Keyword is "may." 😀 The call will go through anyway after the message, and you will not be charged extra for long distance. Everyone gets this message if "1" is not dialaled, but just add 1 before your numbers in your phone book to skip the message.
It is a nice way to still know what would normally have been a long distance call based on your current location...

@RobinJane Double check the area code/number make sure it correct and not a US area code.

@RobinJane "Long distance may apply" is a generic message. When the system plays back this audio message, it doesn't check if your plan includes long distance.

@RobinJane add a 1 in front of the numbers in your contact list too. I'm on the same plan. To save more, add the TextNow voip app and use it via Wifi to make / receive / send calls and texts in Canada and to the United States for free. You can also use it as I do to check my voicemail from my own phone without using the minutes from the PM plan. Simply dial your PM phone number - reject the call when it rings (this sends the call to voicemail) - press the * key to allow you to enter your password. - enter it followed by # - and you are in your voicemail account - Hang up when you are finished. No minutes used.

@RobinJane Try adding +1 in front of the area code of the number you are trying to call. Message should disappear. If not, just ignore it.

Dial 1 ahead of number. Just ignore that message.
