With Fall promotion, How much data did you use?

Hello everyone.

With me only 2 days away from renwing the fist 90 days for the fall promotion I would imagine a lot of people already renewed, I was curious to see how are people dealing with the new 12GB in 90 day "diet" and whether your previous provider was offering more or less.

And since I am trying to run away from my university's homeworks for next week I wanted to offer my experience.

I was with Wind mobile (no I am not calling them Freedo*) on their 40 $ 5Gb ("full speed") Unlimited internet. Now dont get me wrong I wasn't complaining about their network (a lot) in the last 3 years, and I didnt care a lot about dropped calls or slow internet. At the time some months I would have 5.5 Gb, other just 2 GB and sometimes 3 GB so it depends a lot.

Now the switch to PM wasnt hard at all As I started noticing terrible terrible service from them in the last 2 months (september/ october) full bars no internet, a lot of dropped calls and some gentle soul was passing the word about the promotion being in the last week on reddit (BTW, I never used reddit before) when I was about to check for any offers.

Now on PM. 12GB I have to admit, it was a bit tough. I tend to watch a lot of Premier league games and let's just say the a good internet let me watch the full games instead of quitting after 10 minutes because the internet isnt fast enough for the games to load, because of this I had to cut on youtube videos a lot. The ping was great for gaming, low double digits instead of 150 if I was lucky with Wind.

Hotspot did however eat all of my data (maybe 80% of the whole thing ) and then streaming apps and finally ... Chrome (which was a surprise 850 MB in 90 days) and now with 2 days left, I need to eat the remaining 1GB . (piece of cake)

regarding the price I was paying the exact same as before but with rewards around I will always pay 3 dollars less per month (not counting community )

Share your experiences if you like in here.

normal messagiing, browsing, emails dont consume a lot of data.

u-tube,and certain music streaming sites are heavy data consumers.

Ditto for background updates of apps.with a bit of management easy to

stay wihin the 12 gb

I have a week to go to new new billing cycle.  Seems i have only used half ?

I closed all my social media accounts before I switched to PM, so it's strictly personal email, corporate email, and web browsing.  I also use home WiFi data when at home. Knowing this I will use map app more (Waze) since I'm not even close to the 12 GB limit.

I used like 8gb in 90 days. It's still much cheaper than other providers and it's nice not to have  to worry about overage charges.

I barely hit 4 gigs on my 90 day billing period since switching from koodo. I use to pay 45$/1gig and would peak pretty close, while always monitoring my usage.

Currently, I have used 2.66GB and still have 32 days left. There's usually wifi at most places I go so I may not be a heavy data user outside of wifi zones, but PubMo has been the best thing since I found out about it.

After there is overage, they will tell you, You used it,   There is usage fee"

@Noosh can't speak for Rogers but Bell made quite a bit in overages. They counted on it for revenue figures. Many customers pay more for overages than they do for their plans.

Bahaha. I stream google play, cbc and sometimes youtube (for music) when driving. I thought **bleep** I guess I'm close to my data limit. This was say 2 weeks ago. I do a check, I'm barely halfway to 12.

I came from a plan where I got 5Gb for a whopping 90 bucks a month and there were times where I had gone over. With Rogers, the second you go over, you're paying 15 dollars. Which is Frickin lame because it was always at the end of the cycle. The only okay side to this was I was able to change my plan at anytime, with little consequences.

I gotta say the companies that charge a flat rate the second you go over your data limit are complete spare parts. How much money do they make from charging people who go over. I'd love to see those figures.

Capping you off so you don't screw yourself at the end of your cycle just seems like how it should be..

I'm really happy with the speed (same as Telus for me), the latest chrome browser update has seen me cussing and throwing the phone across the room from time to time... Laggy to say the least.

I've only gone through about 5gb, and that's about what i would have gone through in this time, with only a 1gb plan on telus. So I'm really pleased that i have lots of room to play.

Just debating whether i should get a different phone now... Kinda tired of my Samsung gs5 active although it really isn't bad.

What's this thing with new customers doing speed tests so much?  I appreciate that if the numbers are great, there's gloating potential in front of friends.  What are you going to do if the results are average or bad?  Does it matter if the results with the old provider was faster?  Are you going to cancel and go back?  How about complain to a moderator that data speeds with Telus were better and a follow to see what's wrong with the account might be warranted?  I did a couple of speed tests at the office and that was it.

My spedtests were driven by my geniune curiosity about  PM advantage,  LTE functioning, etc..

So, I've burned  a few hundred Megs in the beginning, and then  probably same amount or so in the end of the 90 days cycle.

Also, it is  an activity  very useful for this nice community, so it should be  most welcome, provided someone has some spare data left ! 🙂

I was an ex wind transplant.  I switched from 5 gigs per month to 4 gigs as well.  Because my usage is fairly consistent month to month with minor peaks, I knew that I wound have no issues with losing a gig of usage each month.  I barely hit 8 gigs at the end of my first 90 days.  When the weather improves and outdoor activities give rise to more music streaming, I will have a lot less left over each renewal.

I also stream some music, and 12GB/90 days amounts to about 2-3  hours per day of music streaming (at 128 Kbps). I'd say it is more than enough even  for a heavy everyday commuter.

My pattern of usage for the first 90 days with PM  proved that I have to try very hard to exceed 12 GB. In fact, in a week  or two before expiration, I've just burned few remaining GB for some netflix and speedtests 🙂

So, my point is,  that 12GB/90 days is more than enougn for a typical cellphone use  and for a vast majortiy of users (outside of a heavy addition to online hockey broadcasts etc 🙂 ) ...

I did some test in my first week with PM to see how the service works and make sure that the software limitations were removed, but after that there was no need for them as they eeat more data the faster the data is. (other then the occasional, I am bored, what are my speeds now) And now I have a 1.5 GB to waste, what better then Spped tests.

The best test of performance is actually in normal applications.  If it feels right, it's good enough.

I switched over almost 90 days ago from a Rogers Corp plan of 150MB (you read that right, MB) after many years--here's my post on that: http://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Getting-Started/Thank-you-Forum-How-I-Successfully-Por....

I had managed quite well prior to the switch, with having a BlackBerry 7, finding WiFi, turning off data, etc. These tricks didn't work after a while, after switching to a BlackBerry 10 OS, always $10 worth of overages (consuming about 300 mb) each month, making my bill $45, taxes in. So when I wanted to switch to Android, I knew it was definitely time to switch, as I would need more data--Rogers loyalty isn't worth anything apparently--and avoid monitoring my data-restricting habits.

I have about 3 days left in the Fall Promo, and I have consumed 2.54GB. Based on this first round, I could get away with the 3GB/90days plan. But I love the flexibility of the 12GB and would be hard pressed to give it up. I started a new plan for my preteen a week before my plan: he was on track to using all 12GB by 90 days before renewal (he got his phone at Christmas only and used up 6GB within a day of his renewal on Feb 9, so he went crazy and added 4GB on the last day).

Thanks to Pubic Mobile...this Fall Promo switch was the best plan out there. People gag when I say I have 12GB over 3 months (technically, 90 days, yes...and that's when I start my referral speech). Bring the promo back!

Oh sir, you are a candidate customer for one of those 500 meg share data plans that comes with a free phone.  May I suggest watching YouTube clips in 4k resolution, lol.

@NDesai  Out of those 200mb, many are used for posting in this forum? haha

I used most of them.   Many are due to speedtesting in many areas.  The rest are just normal usage before I switch.

I had 7GB left for the last 30 days of my plan, but I was being very cautious with my data usage.

I ended the cycle with 4GB left after using it more for videos and games

Line 1: For myself, 90 day ends on Feb 15, with less then 1 GB left.

Line 2: Wife, 90 day ends on Feb 14, still have a little more then 2 GB left.

Overall, quiet happy with this, had I not start to use my phone to listen to youtube stream during my commute, I would have less usage.

I usually don't use much data at all

Since 2008 only 3 months when I had heavy use

I just took promo to quit Fido

I also came from Wind. I was on the $30 5GB plan from 2013. I used between 1-2GB per month back then, usually on the lower end of that range. Generally speaking, Wind wasn't too bad for most places I went. For the most part it was usable enough but, it just became increasingly frustrating when I would go to busier places like a mall and things would just stop working even though my phone would say I have full bars. I'd try to send a message or visit a website and it would either not work at all or if it did work, it would take minutes for something to happen.

When Public Mobile had their fall promo it looked like a good deal considering they're using the Telus network so I jumped on the bandwagon and I don't regret it one bit. I get less data if you average it out per month but with my old usage patterns of only around 2GB per month give or take, this wasn't really a problem. Also, with the rewards that Public Mobile offers I'm actually paying around the same price for significantly better speed/coverage.

In my first 90 day period with Public Mobile I used a little over 9GB. I'm not sure about the exact number but it was somewhere between 9-10GB. I imagine a lot of that had to do with speed tests since I just signed up for the service and I wanted to see what it could do. The speed tests probably ate up around 2-3GB at least. I'm now in my second 90 day period and I've used up about 1GB in two weeks so I'm more or less on par with my old usage on Wind. I'm definitely not having any problems at all coping with the lower limit. My usage is not very heavy though. I mainly just use my phone to visit websites, check social media. listen to Spotify, and to message people. I don't really stream videos or anything like that on my phone which tends to eat up a lot more data.

Just watch your data consumption more closely for the first billing cycle. You can limit your data consumption and set the data warning alarm on your phone settings. Also there are some apps available to track your data usage. Good luck.

First month I used about 5.6GB, mainly on Speedtest which consumed 3.3GB

Second month used about 2.5GB which is around my average usage

Third month used 1.5GB, but then I also used another 1.6GB on my Fido 3GB plan, which would just amount to over 3GB if I consistently used my PM card.

My renewal is in a couple of days with quite a bit of data left so I guess this promo made me learn to use more data?? Man Wink

I had no data plan before I signed up for the 12GB promo.  My renewal is tomorrow.  I've used up just over 5GB, and some of that was speedtests.  Guess I'll just have to binge watch Youtube or something this weekend.  Robot LOL

I have a little conundrum with my data usage.

I only have the 6 GB plan, and when I'm just browsing the web and facebook, then I tend to have a lot of excess data.

However, when I watch youtube videos, it just burns through all my data.

Since I missed out on the Fall promo, I hope PM introduces a plan in between the 6 and 12 GB or just lower the price for 12 GB.

This will save me lot of time trying to balance my usage.
