Hi,
I want to change my cell phone number and wanted to find out what is involved and what the ramifications are.
A few questions:
1. Do I loose any of my current benefits? ie extra data, extra minutes, auto-payment benefit etc.
2. Where on the website do I go to pick a new phone number?
3. Can I keep my existing SIM?
4. How do I get the new number associated with the existing SIM?
5. Anything else that might be problematic changing numbers? I really only want a handful of people that have my cell number, thus the desire to change it.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Got a spinning circleto the left of the "Submit" button for a while - then the spinning circle just disappeared.
No indication anywhere on the website that my number was actually changed.
I turned my cellphone off and back on again and made a few test calls.
New number was active, old number went to "Number not in service"
Perfect - thanks all.
@krs99 Yes, the website has hiccup all the time. But glad it is working finally!!!

I just tried to change the number, selected a new one from the group of numbers presented and got a "Phone number change failed"
Does my ell phone have to be off to make that change?
No, the cell phone still could be on. The website is finicky. Maybe try a different web browser, clear cache or incognito mode. You could also try a different device.

@krs99 No, phone can be on or off with the change, doesn't really matter
Try on another browser (Edge/Chrome/Firefox) , or try with Incognito mode
You can also try it again on another computer

Keep your number.
Only put those that you want to accept calls from in your contacts list.
Any other contacts can be there as well but put their numbers in the notes part of contact.
Turn DND on to only notify you of calls from numbers in your contacts list.
You will see ALL calls in your “recents”. And can block from there as well.
Cons.
Any caller can leave a voicemail....and that might be a good thing to have.
Not sure if texts would still work.
Specific blocking may help as per the 2 cons mentioned.
This is a bit of work but if your new number “gets out”, do you change again and do all those changes and updates again?

Pick your local area or city and you will get 5 options. Pick another area to refresh the choices. Depending where you are you may have many areas to choose a number from that's still considered "local" or you may only have two or three. Is there an area code you prefer?

See below:
A few questions:
1. Do I loose any of my current benefits? ie extra data, extra minutes, auto-payment benefit etc.
No, your benefits will still continue
2. Where on the website do I go to pick a new phone number?
Self service account. Options to change number.
3. Can I keep my existing SIM?
Yes
4. How do I get the new number associated with the existing SIM?
Public mobile will offer their available numbers for your area. You can browse the numbers to pick your preferred number. You may not get your preferred area code for your area though.
5. Anything else that might be problematic changing numbers? I really only want a handful of people that have my cell number, thus the desire to change it.
Just need to let your friends and others about the change (ie. banks, credit cards, etc.)

changing number is easy. No worry, here are the answers to your questions
1. you won't losse anything. No change to reward/benefits or minutes/data
2. Login to My Account and pick Change number, then select a new number
3. you will be using the existing SIM card
4. Follow the process I mentioned in Step 2, the process will re-provision the new number onto your existing sim card
5. should be easy, after you finish the process, just reboot the phone
