Back up your monthly bottom dollar by doing this idea. I just took my $45 monthly plan which had 5.5gb data down to a $35 monthly 1gb data plan, with all the other bells and whistles such as unlimited Canada-wide calling, unlimited international texting and picture messaging. I have enough time at home and at all the places I frequent with Wi-Fi to make this downgrade possible without really sacrificing anything plus I'll be saving an extra $11.50 a month which is nice. Let me know your experience with wasting money on data you could easily be just using a Wi-Fi connection for or cutting in other areas such as not using internet at all and just enjoying a walk for example.

@Effort, I probably have about 300 songs in a few different playlists I cycle through. But thanks for that caveat.

If you listen to the same album, the songs get cached on your device either way. So it's not constantly downloading the same song over and over. The amount of data you use depends if you listen to hundreds or thousands of different songs in a month.

WOW... I'm conserving data for no reason it seems. I'll check it out.
Thanks!

@stonechucker wrote:@Effort, 1GB per 30-day of Extreme quality? Is that all? I faithfully (almost) use offline mode with Spotify on my device, and that's about 2-3 hours of walking to and from work and walking the dog, every day. How many hours of music are you listening too per day on average?
My commute to school is 1 hour and 30 min one way. So 3 hours a day during weekdays.

All in all PM is a pretty good choice..has its issues..but so does most other providers..the ability to control spending month to month is great..next month my kid might need new shoes or i might feel like a few xtra beers..lol..no problem..cut back my phone payment..as far as no live talking to a service rep, i find the community boards better..find out fast about deals problems etc..i was with my last provider for 6 yrs and never spoke a word to another client on the same service..all is good

I use over 1GB for Spotify @ Extreme quality settings in a month. It's not feasible at all.
Just being on Public Mobile is a big enough money saver. If you're fortunate enough to get some referrals during their $25 promotion, unlike Koodo's referrals, the credits you get from it can be 100% put towards your next bill. Then if your referrals stick around, that's additional money saved before taxes.

I see a lot of good stuff in this thread. The what ifs are what I want to touch on quickly. The pattern of what if is snuffed out for me by what if not? because I just overlook the history of the last few months and ask myself, could I have done it differently? Where did I waste data where I easily could've used wifi? Questions like that answered honestly in every area of our lives will make us long term winners that goes far beyond Public Mobile cell phone winning.

@Zz, if human nature were predictable, then we would all make sensible financial decisions. Have you ever heard of people talk about future proofing their cell plan out of irrational fear that overage charges would eat a hole in their wallet? Many do over purchase just to avoid overage. Fortunately for this service, there are no overages.

True..! There are cheaper options to message people..smoke signals..pigeons..message in a bottle if you live along a waterway...and if you're not in a hurry there is always canada post..lol

Wanna save money? Don't get a cell phone!

@Carld123. I agree with you. I use more than 1 GB per 30 days, so I signed up for a 6GB per 90-day cycle once I got things going here. When the Fall 2016 Promo came, it was the same cost, for another 6 GB of data over that same 90-day cycle.
Sure I have more data than I use, but I have the province-wide calling option, that *was* cheaper than the Canada-Wide option. The fact that the plan was the same cost as my then current plan, the extra data to me is 'free' and I can use it if I wish.
I binged one day - 3 GB of data via cellular data, using my iPad tethered to my cell. Ended up using almost 11 GB that cycle.

Paying for something you dont use is definitely a waste...I always think about the what if scenario..lol..power goes out..stuck on the 401..etc..I recently switched over to PM and for me the cost is almost half of my previous plan with lots of "what if" data..and when 200mb add on is 10$ I'll pay for the what if scenario....this is just my thoughts on my personal needs..good day to all...

If this works for you great, enjoy the savings... there is no clear cut solution for everyone. people must understand their usage needs andd buy a plan that fits. Yes too much extra data is a waste.
