@mojorising with AT&T back as PM's roaming partner, roaming connection should be less troublesome now 🙂

When I was in the States last year, southern California, I had the network settings on auto and found that I was having trouble connecting or no connection to data. When I manually set it to always connect to T-Mobile, I never had any issues using data while I was there.

@Jmadge You will need to ask support if they can give you credit for the first one that didn’t work

Still couldn't get it to work, so I just purchased the $30 plan with data. It is working now. How do I get the $15 back for the talk & text plan I originally purchased that didn't work?

@Jmadge- The mere presence of a volte toggle does not mean volte has been enabled here. And we've been accumulating evidence that says that turning on that switch does not magically make volte work in the states.

Critical part to US roaming depends on T-Mobile/AT&T coverage and whether you can connect sucessfully onto either network.
If the phone is not connecting to T-Mobile/AT&T, change the Network Connection from Automatic to Manual and select and test both T-Mobile and AT&T and see which one you can connect.
For your issue is with voice, make sure VoLTE is enabled on the device setting. And if it does not work, try to change the Network to T-Mobile ONLY Preferred Network Type or Network Mode to 2G and see if the calls go through
Also, you can download VoIP app TextNow as a workaround to make calls and text if you have Wifi or if your roaming has data component and data is working

Click the little spinner refresh icon down by the shop add-ons button to see if it shows up in the add-ons list.
You should be able to text on T-Mobile and LTE. Talk is the tricky part. If your phone is not enabled for volte here yet then your phone needs to be able to switch down to 2G GSM or you need to manually set it. Talk and text will work on 2G GSM.

@Jmadge What phone you have ? Do you know if voLTE is been enabled on your account . Unless this is iPhone then data roaming on wont make a difference for just text and voice

I'm on the LTE network with T Mobile and my data roaming is on. I've rebooted my phone and still not working?

@Jmadge reboot the phone and make sure your connected to T mobile or AT&T

Ensure Data Roaming is turned on. Also, make sure you’re on the LTE setting, not 3G.
