Trying to send pictures

Hi I have a data plan but have run out of data I am using wi/fi trying to send a picture message do I need to have data to do this

@computergeek541 is spot on.

In the strictest sense, "SMS" never uses data, and SMS also does not require any APN settings.  MMS, however, does use data.  Also, if the picture is being sent as pure MMS, a cellular data connection is required as that type of message cannot be sent through wi-fi.  I'm aware that there are phone software applciations that allow similar types of activities, but those aren't actually using SMS and MMS protocols.  As srlawren and xCameron94x were saying, a data plan isn't required to use MMS but cellular data must be turned on in the phone.

I remember you need to have data enablled on your phone. You do not necessiarly need a data plan to send/receive MMS

Yes I understand that part but I have run out of data dose that stop me from sending and receiving pictures I remember some plans will tell you (picture messaging included) I'm not sure this is public mobile or not

I ran into this "problem" before. The short answer is yes, you need a data plan. I don't know much about the technical side but it seems like SMS relies on "data network" as opposed to simply an internet connection. (SMS uses APN settings whereas wi-fi does not)
