I spend 6 months a year in Europe and I've always been able to get texts originating from Canada to read on my phone. This was with another carrier. I am here in Europe again with Public Mobile and find that I am not getting any texts. Is this a problem or just normal in the public mobile domain. I enjoy Public Mobile in every way but would have to very reluctantly leave if this is not a service I can enjoy.

thanks @will13am
so, the RCS still not useful for 2FA text 😞 It just useful with friends, and they need to use RCS. If they are unaware and sent through SMS, then it still does not work

None of my service providers currently use RCS format for 2FA but I believe it is not a matter of if but when. SMS should be 100% RCS. BTW, some providers use push notifications which really is their homebrew version of RCS.

@hTideGnow Most of my 2FA codes come via SMS, but one company I deal with actually does send them via RCS somehow. I thought it was odd when I noticed it, but I'm hopeful that becomes more broadly used.
@Rvscotty Your other carriers had roaming agreements for those other countries, hence why you were able to receive texts. As long as you have service you can receive SMS for free in any country. The issue with Public Mobile is that there is no service outside of Canada, the US, and Mexico; this means no incoming SMS unfortunately. As has been suggested, if you're relying on 2FA codes if may be best to try and switch the settings to send codes to email instead.

@Rvscotty , if you are running RCS chat you can receive and send SMS via RCS format while in Europe. RCS runs on WiFi or mobile data.

HI @Rvscotty
if you just need text service from friends, use VoIP app TextNow. But if you need 2FA texts from Banks, you will need to change to email or use those app to get Authentication code.
And since you are leaving for 6 months, if you stay with PM, you can choose to suspend the account. But PM only allows suspend for 90 days. So, you will need to resume service for 30 days every 85 days to keep the number

@Rvscotty Public Mobile has no service outside Canada, the US and now Mexico.
