Temporary change of Package

charlgarr

I have just come to Florida for 3 mos & found there is no land line phone where I am staying. Can I get some kind of package on my cell phone that will let me use my phone here in Florida (which of course I will hardly use) and also allow me to call my children in Ontario? Can someone help me as I am pretty much cell phone illiterate. G. Walker

I am leaving my Public Mobile plan active and have purchased a temporary plan from T-Mobile to use while I am here in Florida. Thanks for your input.

@charlgarr  why pay if you can call for free.  Use Whatapp or Facebook messaging for video calls. Or Textnow to call for free

and don't pay a dime for roaming, you are in US, country of Cheap phone service and data, get a prepaid service there

You can buy US add-ons but for 3 months it will get expensive.

US ROAMING ADD-ONS

US Roaming for 10 day packages

Unlimited U.S. Talk, Text and 250MB Data Bundle = $20

Unlimited U.S. Talk and Text Bundle = $15

Unlimited U.S. Talk Only = $8

Unlimited U.S. Text Only = $8

U.S. Data Only for 10 day packages

250MB = $10

500MB = $15

1GB = $20

Better see if you have Internet around you and use voip apps as TextNow or Fongo.

Please note to renew your PM plan around 88t day or your account will be cancelled after 90 days of no payment.

I would suggest to suspend your account now as you will be using it for 3 months (unless you go for US add-ons...).

@charlgarr

It will be cheaper to get a local SIM from Mint Mobile as noted by @darlicious.

Another plan is from Tello for unlimited texting and calling plus 1gb of data for $10/month.

@charlgarr

As suggested a local sim card would be a much better deal for you. Mint mobile offers 90 day plans starting at US $15/4gb per month. You will be unable to call forward your pm phone number to a voip app like fongo now that you have left Canada but you can look at the following options your pm service while you are away and perhaps change your voicemail to redirect callers to your voip Canadian phone number and/or your mint mobile phone number. Please note that your voicemail will remain active if you suspend your service via lost/stolen before midnight eastern on the night of your renewal.

Spoiler
  1. You can turn off autopay and allow the account to suspend at the of your current 30 day cycle but this is your least advantageous option. Pay and reactivate by day 85 or so.
  2. If you have an account balance that exceeds your plan amount then you need to suspend via the lost/stolen feature in your account before midnight eastern on the evening of your renewal. Then on day 85 or so resume your service to pay and reactivate.
  3. Suspending via lost/stolen before midnight eastern will keep your voicemail active allowing you retrieve voicemail and any verification sent by phone calls. However your rewards will not be applied to your account. Moderator/CSA contact after paying and reactivating is necessary to have the rewards applied manually.
  4. Voicemail can be accessed by calling your pm number from a different phone by calling your phone # and pressing * once connected and entering your 4 digit voicemail pin #.
  5. If you don't have an account balance or enough balance to cover your plan amount you can suspend via lost/stolen after midnight but before 2 am eastern on the day of your renewal. Once your rewards have been applied (usually by 12:15 am et) then suspend your account. Voicemail access will be lost.
  6. Switching to the $15 plan with rewards helping to cover a partial or full amount of your plan allows you to call forward your pm number to your fongo number  before you leave Canada.. Now any incoming calling to your pm number will ring thru to your fongo number while on wifi or mobile data (w/a local or global sim card) You can access your fongo voicemail for all voicemail messages.

Most important mark on your calendar day 85 of your suspension and day 90. Do not forget when you must unsuspend your account via lost/stolen and/or pay and reactivate your service so you don't lose your phone number and account. Happy travels!

@charlgarr

Contact T-Mobile (Contact Us (t-mobile.com) and see if they can offer you a pre-paid plan for 30-90 days.

Then you'll be able to place that SIM card into your device, and if the plan includes calling to USA & Canada (alot would), you'll be good to go!!!

 @charlgarr : Do you have an internet connection? The only services from here are roaming add-ons but they're only good for 10 days. That would add up over 3 months. It would more suggested to get local service.
