I just switched to Public Mobile on my Pixel 7 Pro and RCS chat isn’t working anymore. When I turn on RCS chat in Messages it states “Setting up…” in the status field and the next line reads “Trying to verify your phone number…”. It has been like this for over 12 hours now.
Help would be appreciated to get RCS chat working.

Thanks for this. Was running into the exact same issue as OP on my Pixel 7 Pro after switching. Just cleared app data and it worked immediately.

I had the same issue after porting my number over to PM. The solution for me was going to
https://myaccount.google.com/phone and there you'll see your number and a toggle to verify your number. Re verify there and it should work. Remove any other devices in that list that you're no longer using also.

I turned off the eSIM, cleared the data for Messages, rebooted, enabled the eSIM, rebooted again and now it's using the correct number.

I had this problem too where RCS suddenly quit working. I tried the do the google way to solve the issue as was suggested above but the options given in the directions weren't even showing up. Retry wasn't an option but ultimately, rebooting my phone worked.

Yes I can send / receive calls and texts.
I just got RCS chat to work after deleting the data and cache in the Messages app. Now Messages knows my number and is connected for RCS chat.
Thanks.

HI @Zal_
first can you receive inbound calls and text? Please reboot phone once more and check inbound calls
When you see the “Setting up” status remains , It means Google Messages can't verify your phone number. RCS chats. Tap RETRY and confirm your phone number when requested.
