Public Rewards vs points

han0chul

Hello! My grandma has an existing plan which I manage for her. She has a credit balance of $800 and only pays $10/mo for 50min. If she joins public points does she start from scratch and lose theb+$800 credit balance or would the 8 hundy become points?

Yes you could just be unlucky.....but as I roughly worked out the odds of winning for @CountyDownIeUk in another thread to be 1/200.....that is what I was basing my comment on.

I'm sure it stays as credit but if it was points she could enter the lucky draw 600 times and just about guarantee winning at least one iPhone 13! 🤞🙄

Keep dreaming 🙂 Nothing is guaranteed in lottery unless you are the only participant.

With $800 on her account she could buy data add-on and enjoy Internet galore.

OP says "If she joins public points does she start from scratch and lose theb+$800 credit balance or would the 8 hundy become points?" <== I would say yes...will lose ... key word is "if".

I was similar but not near as much with Telus Prepaid. Once OP has confirmed then the ideas should come. If Telus prepaid they now take from balance first.....just started a month or so ago. If Telus I would use it all up on Telus then move over. Like take a $60 plan and use up the balance. That would pay for just over a year.

I think grandma aka the referral queen has referred everyone at the seniors residence resulting in an ever-growing credit on her account!😁

@han0chul

We got the same notice too but I would suggest you stick with the Rewards system because you get the Rewards discount at the end of each monthly bill. The Points system, you need to collect up to 15 points to redeem for discounts. But you have a chance to win an iPhone 13 on a draw for every point/entry.

Not sure how the Points system is going for PM but it seems they are luring members to join.

@han0chul

There is no upside to joining the points program. The difference after 5 years with pm on the points program is your grandma would get $68 less in rewards each year. Or $340 less every 5 years. Don't rush out and change that $10 plan yet as nothing is written in stone and if you change from your grandfathered plan you will never get it back just like rewards if you join the points program you will never get your rewards back.

HI @han0chul   there is really not much upside in joining Public Points for existing members.

But she has that many points, unless she upgrade her plan, she really would not have much use of the $800.   So, the only upside for her for joining Public points is to use the point for Jackpot and maybe she can win an iPhone for her grandkids

Why she has so much credit on her account? There is no need adding so much money unless its accumulated through rewards (loyalty, referrals).

Money stays as money. It just won't add in like it used to. The $2 autopay is changed to a small cash-back which breaks even at the $40 plan level. Other than that it will then only add in points into a points balance, not money. With your balance, it would take over 5 years to draw it down paying the plan.

If she has that 800 in her account balance she keeps that, plus if she transfers over she will get 1 point for each month she has been a. Customer. So if 3 years.. $36 and so on.. But most likely smarter to stick with old plan

Friend don't let friends join PM Points program....ever !

$800 balance in her $10 plan ????....why would she put that much in Available Funds ? PM is prepaid service and as such...if she decides to quit PM and go elsewhere...she loses whatever balance is left...no refunds.

Please read these posts before deciding to switch to Points: PLEASE think twice before switching. Try to read as much post regarding pro and cons.

Your grandma will soon pay $13 as PM increased $10 Plan cost for $3.

You should consider switching her plan to $15 as for $2 more she will have 100 outgoing minutes, unlimited incoming calls and unlimited in/out SMS. Plus 250MB data if needed.
