I purchased my plan on Sept. 9th or 10th and when I tried to log in, a pop-up is on my account page saying that my subscription was from August 11-Sept 10 and I needed to renew it. How is that possible?

Don't get caught up on the Public Mobile's self-serve site @RiaMc . It's likely playing 'catch up' with your recent activation.
The rule of thumb around here is, "if services work, try to ignore what PM's systems are telling you" . You might find similar erroneous messaging from PM via text or e-mail - again, if all calling, texting, and data services are working, you're gold.

@RiaMc If you just activated sept 9 you next renewal should be Oct 9 but double check like this for the date
Try again incognito/private mode
And or lap top /computer
OR
simply try refreshing the page to check data plan / mins / add ons
