I have just travelled to the US and when I attempt to make a call the phone says I do not have a US plan. I did buy an add on fans have 500 min. of international calls?

When you have wifi, try to purchase the correct (US) ad on, as mentioned by others. 

Once you're back in Canada (or using wifi) you can request a refund (via CS agent) for the 500 minutes of calling or keep it for future use.  😊

500 international minutes is only call from Canada. If you do have add on US talk , data and text then you need to manual to connect to T- Mobile. Depend your phone, PM started VoLTE service since yesterday, if your phone have VoLTE show up, then voice talk should be fine, otherwise voice talk almost doesn't work. In this case you can use TextNow that using WIFI or data plan to make call.

@Bigal1954  the 500 mins of international calling is only to be used to call overseas FROM Canada

When you are in US, you need to buy the US roaming addon to get the service there.  Here are the choices

Bundle - US Roaming - Talk, Text and 3GB Data (15 days)- $30
Bundle - US Roaming - Talk and Text (15 days)
Data - US Roaming - 250 MB Data (15 days) - $10.00 (5 Reward points)
Data - US Roaming - 1GB Data (15 days) - $20.00 (15 Reward points)
Data - US Roaming - 3GB Data (15 days) - $25.00 (20 Reward points)

Or a free way to make voice call is to download VoIP app TextNow and make the call on the app.  It works whenever you have Wifi or local mobile data

That doesn't sound like the right add-on. You need the roaming add-on...which is unlimited talk and text.

Click the little spinner refresh icon under Shop Add-ons to make sure of all your add-ons.

@Bigal1954 , please check your online account using incognito mode and ensure that you purchased a US roaming add-on.  Note that the 500 international calling minutes add-on is only usable while in Canada.
