  • Ok so i have been out of the loop lately im noticing existing customers can choose to go to points . From what I see for opting in I will receive 5 points and also another 40+ (1 for each month i been here) now does that mean I will lose my current referral credits and loyalty credit. In exchange for a 50$ /point welcome and 5% back a month. What are others doing is it worth it and if i opt to change can i use the points to pay for a month

Lol....I was about to offer the OP one of my card details as well....

@Drizzy

Don't switch. To put it simply in 5 year terms after you reach $5 In loyalty rewards per month.

  1. Loyalty rewards per 5 years =$300
  2. Anniversary points per 5 years =50 points ($50) $250 less.
  3. Autopay rewards per year/5 years =$24/$120
  4. 5% back per year/5years =$15 plan=$9/$45...$25 plan=$15/$75....$35 plan=$21/$105. The $40 plan is the break even point and any plan above earns marginally more.

Community rewards and referral rewards have equal value under the rewards or points program.

@Drizzy : I'd be giving that easy 2 bucks another look. If you're paying by other means, you can still set up a spent-out prepaid "credit" card gift card to satisfy autopay. I'll even give you the particulars of one of several I have. The card doesn't need to be hit to get the reward.

HI @Drizzy   most of us agree the old one is better, a lot better.  And don't try to check it out. There are couple customers changed and they are upset they cannot change it back.

and Yes, the spreadsheet provided the PM was a great idea, but they cheated, it only provides 2 or 3 years outlook, they hesitate to show us what will happen in 5 years or 10 years.

Extending the spreadsheet with more years would only show that the cumulative amount that you've msised out on by switching would almost always increase after each additional year.  You can even see it happening in the second year if you took a customer who didn't yet have any loyalty rewards and joined on January 24, 2022.  The spreadsheet makes the new points look better by overly emphasizing the switchover bonuses received in the first year.

Hi @HALIMACS   agree with what you said

and add to it, they willing to offer you a "Welcome" package to lure you into it, you can tell how "good" the new system is.  🙂

Look at it this way,  @Drizzy

There's a reason public mobile won't let you switch back to the old system if you decide to move and want to switch back ... it's because the new system SAVES THEM MONEY.

Which, effectively, means it's costing you more money.

Decide wisely!!!

Not worth switching unless you are on $40+ plan and purchase add-ons.
Also, you can only redeem your points once you reach 15 points slots for $15.

I prefer instant monthly credits to my bill.

It's not worth switching even on a $70 plan.  The lost loyalty rewards far outweigh any of the parcentage points that you'll receive in return. The spreadsheet that Public Mobile has provided fails to show that the new points system is universally worse than the old rewards program almost across the board by the way that the information that it provides simply stops at 2 years.  In the long run, the only possible way to be end up ahead on the new points system would be for customers who regularly spend a lot on add-ons. And, if a customer is spending that much on add-ons, that person probably wouldn't/shouldn't be a Public Mobile customer as that means the plans don't work for that person.  As for "Jackpot", that's just gambling.

My thing is that I don’t have the rewards like I used to i mean ive lost 10 of my 14 referral and stopped auto pay after I was double charged for 3 months so the 40$ plan I get 6 dollars and with two more referral losses is now 4$ a month I will get almost a year of current rewards if I switch

@Drizzy   from our calculation, you will basically always better on the old one

Friends referral is the same on both , so doesn't matter

Keep in mind , the welcome bonus is one time only.. not month

Look like you joined in Jan 2019, you should be getting $3/month  or $36 per year now..  Next year, you will get $4/month or $48/year.  and then $5/month and $60 per year after you completed your 5th year    With new reward system, you will only get $10/ year (Anniversary bonus) no matter how long you are here.

unless you are planning to leave PM soon , then "cash" out the Welcome bonus .  If you are staying, old system is always better

and keep in mind,  you have to redeem 15 points for $15 , not like now, $1 or $2 will be credited to your account automatically.

@Drizzy   I believe most long term members will not switch to the new points system.  I won't be and would suggest you really understand how it works as once the switch is made, you cannot go back.

@Drizzy Try the excel calculator posted here: Introducing Public Points Rewards - Community (publicmobile.ca)

Personally, I am sticking to the old rewards system since I am on a low cost plan so cash back wouldn't be much of a benefit. Unless I decide to gamble away points for a prize draw, I am not moving to the new point system.

A quick answer to your question, don't look, don't think and just stay on the legacy rewards system  🙂

Quick advise for anyone who consider changing:  If you are gone, you are gone.  That is a point of NO RETURN!!

in summary

  1.  $2 Autopay is no longer there and replaced with 5% ,  you get less UNLESS you have the $40 plan or above
(but you get 5% for your other Add-on purchases as well)
  2. No more loyalty rewards, meaning the loyalty discount of $1/month up to $5/month will be gone. Instead, they will only give $10 each year on the anniversary.
1st to 12th month:     Legacy system will give $0 that year, versus $10 at the end of the 12th month with thew new system
13th to 24th month:  Legacy system will give $12 that year ($1/cycle), versus $10 at the end of the 24th month with the new system
25th to 36th month:  Legacy will give $24 that year ($2/cycle), versus $10 at the end of the 36th month with the new system
    .........................
61st and beyond: Legacy will give $60/year ($5/cycle) versus $10/year on the anniversary day under the new system

  3. You can no longer apply $1 or $2 you got to the bill right a way, you have to collect enough to 15 points to cash out $15 in one shot
Also, you have to remember to convert your points to dollars once it reaches 15 points.  PM no longer automatic apply the reward discount.

On the other hand, the goodies for new system,
           - 5% Points back for add-on purchases as well
           - add-ons are around 33% cheaper when you redeem with Public Points
           - you can use 1 point for lucky draw, so, technically you bet $1 and can win an iPhone
(Unfortunately, this goodie on the new system is gone as of mid-2023)
