Internet Speed

I am a new customer on the 4G 6Gb plan which is advertised as providing speed of up to 100Mbps, and I live in Ottawa, with no connection problems with my previous providers (Rogers and Bell).  I just checked my speed on SpeedTest.net and got only 22.2 Mbps on download and 0.979 upload, ping 26 ms!  What's up with that?  Why so low?  I know it's stated to be UP TO 100 Mbps, but the actual speed is not even close.

@JoeBlow2 It's advertised as "up to 100Mbps", not guaranteed. When I said different locations I meant around town, not your house. And best results will always be outdoors.

I know you have a 4G plan, but is your phone connecting to 5G? If it is, try 4G and see if that's any better. In all honesty your results aren't bad though. Upload speed will be slower than download speed. Now that you're getting in the 10 range, that's great.

hi @JoeBlow2

22 Mbps to 50 is not great but ok for most browsing

but what phone do you have?  wonder if your phones have all the bands PM needs

It's 4G LTE.  I just ran the test again outdoors, with full bars and LTE displayed (51 down, 10 up, 23 ping, 90 mb used).  That's the best so far with Public Mobile, but still not close to their 100 Mbps claim, and most tests so far were significantly less (as low as 19 down, 0.8 up, 63 ping).  Why such poor results?  I can recall when I was with Bell their tests exceeded their advertised speed.  What test results are others reporting? Please report your service and your test result using Speedtest.net.  If everyone is getting the same poor result, we should complain to the Regulator.

Yes, several times and different locations in my home (suburban Ottawa).  The best so far was 33 down, 11 up, 25 ping, which is much better but still way lower than advertised (100).  I'm reluctant to try more tests, because each test consumes about 100-200 mb of data, and I need all of my 6 Gb.  I am curious to see if others are having the same dismal results on a 4G/LTE plan?

What was your result, and your service (4G/5G)?  Also, I am curious if others are getting the same dismal result as me?

Have you also tried other websites to test your speed? Here are a few that I just tried, all working as of today:

https://fast.com/

https://broadbandnow.com/speedtest

https://speedtest.shaw.ca/

https://openspeedtest.com/

https://www.speedcheck.org/

Have you tried different locations and different times of day? It will vary significantly due to many factors such as signal strength, network congestion, phone type etc. Your download speed and latency should allow you do to anything you want on your device. The upload speed is, admittedly, dismal.

HI@JoeBlow2

and the status on top showing you connected to 4G or LTE?

speed test result can vary, try another test again at your current location and try again in another location and compare

you can also click Reset All networks and see if it helps or not

or of course, you can ask PM support agent to refresh your account on the system
