I want to use my phone with Public Mobile but it’s locked to Public Mobile

LeoDiCroce

I purchased a new iPhone a few weeks ago from Accurate Technologies, which is an authorized Apple reseller.

They warned me that the phone was locked to Public Mobile, so I switched carriers.

I’m now on the Public Mobile network, and I purchased a new SIM from Public Mobile.

Unfortunately, activation failed. The phone says, “SIM Not Supported” and that I should request that the phone be unlocked by the carrier.

How do I ask Public Mobile to do that?

@LeoDiCroce   the phone settings say the carrier is "Public Mobile 50.0.1

Probably moot since the CSA agent is working on it, but where exactly does it say this?  Edit, disregard, I just found it in my iPhone under Settings - About - Network/Carrier.

Thank you. There is no "Carrier Lock" label per sé under Settings > About.

Here's the screen that tells me the phone is locked...

Thank you. Yes, Mario's on it. He's a "CS_Agent" for public mobile.

@LeoDiCroce Yes, the phone Carrier is "Public Mobile 50.0.1

It says this next to "carrier lock" in the settings?

Am I missing something here? If the iPhone is locked to Public Mobile>>Telus it should still work here just not with a Rogers, Bell, Sasktel, Videotron or Eastlink owned provider.

We don't know who the phone is locked to.  The store said that it's locked to Publci Mobile, but that appears to be wrong.  As to your next likely quetsions:  No, Public mobile cannot help unlock a phone that is locked to a different carrier.  Only the carrier that the phone is locked to can help.

Due to the phone itself and the age, perhaps it could actually be locked if sold by Public Mobile back then. The phone is from 2016 and just a year later, Telco's were no longer allowed to sell locked phones. So, with that being said, here is a link to reach out to a CS Agent. Advice them it's locked and may have been locked and sold by Public Mobile before December 1st of 2017 and you require the unlock code. If they are unable to assist, you may need to return the phone.

Public Mobile never sold an Apple devices, but Telus and Koodo locked devices are still in use by some Public Mobile customers to this day. In any event, Public Mobile cannot provide an unlock code for an iPhone 7. There's no such thing as a network unloock code for any iPhone devices.  It is true that Public Mobile CSAs can get a Telus/Kooodo locked iPhone 7 unlocked, but they would have to submit a request on the user's behalf to Apple.

Public Mobile did actually sell locked devices at one point (even after acquisition by Telus).  During a transtion period, Public Mobile was selling Telus-locked phones.

Are you 100% certain that business is an Authorized Apple reseller?

Unless I'm missing it (and I hope I'm wrong), I don't see it here: Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Resellers

Thank you. Yes, I thought they were an Authorized Apple reseller. They're actually an "Authorized Service Provider." Reference: http://accurate-tech.com/

I'm curious, what phone is it? Because as of December of 2017 no phone carrier were allowed to lock phones anymore. The good news is if it is locked, which I still find odd, they can not charge you for unlocking it. Matter of fact, whatever code they give you to unlock it, keep track of it and never lose it.

Thank you. Yes, it's an iPhone 7.

hi @LeoDiCroce it could still be the phone problem itself.

try the sim card in another phone and see if it works.  If it works there but not the iPhone then check back where you got the phone from

if it does not work on another phone too, ask PM support agent to check , you can  submit by direct message:

Thank you. Yes, the SIM card works in my old Phone. I'll check back with the vendor as you suggested, after I go through the replies here.
