if the numbers is assigned to a new customer, you will not be able to get it back, once the account is closed, the number will return back to the original provider, so if you get the number from public mobile and it’s not assigned to another customer, you need to contact CDS, they may be able to help.

you might or might not get the old number back.
did you try to call the number and see if it has been reassigned already?
if not reassigned yet, message support agent as advised above and ask them. Sometimes, support agent can help if you can show that you were the owner of the number before and the account wasn't closed for too long

Most likely the account is closed because I haven't paid for more than 90 days. How can I restore my number now?

how long was "a long time"? if the account was suspended for over 90 days, then the account would have been closed
you can confirm if the account is still suspended by calling 1855-4PUBLIC and then enter your phone number. If the system said no such number, then the account was already closed

I lost my SIM card and haven't topped up my account for a long time. Today at the TELUS store they gave me a new SIM card for free and said that I could restore everything online. When I registered the number, I couldn't choose my number and I had to register a new number. Now I can't restore my lost number and besides, I can't make calls from my phone
