@judy27 , 5G speed plan is a marketing term for the speed limit placed on the mobile data. It does not mean 5G network connection. All plans can connect to 5G/4G/3G network, provided the hardware is compatible. It sounds like your phone is not VoLTE capable and so phone calls will only work if you are connected to T-Mobile and there is 2G coverage in the area. Try to connect to T-Mobile and make a call.

Thanks everyone for your info. I believe it is my 3G phone. I will have to invest in a 5G phone when I get back to Canada. My husband is using his 5G phone and all is working well.

@judy27 5G plan makes no difference, it's dependent on the phone you have. The US shut their 3G networks down, so in order for phone calls to work you need a 4G or 5G device that is on the VoLTE whitelist:

Alternatively you can try your luck with finding a 2G T-Mobile connection, but that's going to be hit and miss. Data and text should work fine though.

@judy27 If your phone can't do VoLTE then make it connect manually to T-Mobile but it depends where their 2G is still available.

Yes. I have a 3G phone but I am on a 5G plan. It was working in Idaho. Now if I try calling it hangs up in 1 second, and receiving call does the same. This is the first time I tried it in the USA this year. I have this plan with public mobile so I could use the roaming while on vacation.

Also manually connect to AT&T or T-Mobile network on your phone.

what make / model is your cellphone ? Talk in US using your PM plan requires the phone to be on the PM whitelist of VoLTE enabled phones.

When you use your phone while you're stil in Canada, do phone calls route through the LTE network? VoLTE is important for voice services while you're in the US due to the lack of 3g/HSPA networks there.
