@Chalupa_Batman  did you try your cat s22 lately for volte?    My father has an Alcatel go flip on public Mobile and when volte came out it didn't want to work on public Mobile.  Last week I read somewhere that they had refreshed their volte whitelist.  I followed a link to Telus to check the imei for volte and it said it does work now.  I toggled the volte switch on the flip phone and it does work great now!

Hey @GRR Just tested the phone and sadly no. Shows LTE at first, then once call starts, it goes into 3G. One can only hope this phone will be able to be used on PM once 3G shuts down. The phone is from T-Mobile for Pete sake. LOL

Thus is true. If they are older model flip phones, I can for sure understand that. However, this Cat S22 is pretty recent. It came out towards the end of 2021 and these phones were made for T-Mobile which happens to be one of PM's roaming partners. So it is VoLTE ready and currently does work on PM but once 3G is gone, it's a paper weight. This is why it concerns me why PM is not allowing or enabling VoLTE on phones to work properly and more efficiently on their network. It makes zero sense really. Plus they won't give us an updated list of what's considered acceptable. I will say this till I'm blue in the face. Communication is everything!!

I agree with you about the VoLTE device restrictions at Public Mobile.  I've been vocal about this and even called this an anti-competitive policy.

I've tested several flip phones over the last several months. YES, your SIM card will work in a flip phone.

This means you will be able to use the phone on 3G.

This depends entirely on the device model.  Due to the age of many flip phone models, many of these will not work at Public Mobile, not even on the 3G network.

HI @JFBR

it is the same sim card and no different, so , you can simply put the sim card into the new phone.  All phone should be using nano sim now, so the size should be good.  Just in case you have an older flip phone and still use the mid-size sim card, you might need to get an adapter, or just change sim card for $5

Hey @JFBR

I've tested several flip phones over the last several months. YES, your SIM card will work in a flip phone.

HOWEVER, you must know this. The flip phone you choose may NOT be on Public Mobile's approved list. This means you will be able to use the phone on 3G. If the phone is not approved, then when 3G is done in Canada next year, the phone, at least with Public Mobile, will be a paper weight and you'll have to find a new phone or switch providers that will allow that phone by enabling VoLTE. This phone 100% works on Telus.

The phone I wanted to end up with was the Cat S22 flip phone. Yes, it's got Android Go but it was exactly what I wanted. It has LTE or VoLTE on it which is needed to use your Public Mobile phone in the US when you roam but Public Mobile refuses to add this to their safe list and enable VoLTE.
