Does PM sell phones with double SIM?

Hi, which one of the phones sold here (https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/phone-section#phone-start) has two SIM card slots?

@Yummy

That probably stems from my first activation of my "darlicious" account without a promo or a referral code despite waiting about 6 weeks for a flash sale....that occurred two days later! No biggie two months later that account had a $0 bill. Free makes up for any promotion any day.

The extra bonus is that account has the data glitch of full speed 4G data so I am reluctant to change to the $15 plan.

You should not refrain of mentioning PM's glitches publicly as PM might fix them... 👺

I am impressed with your way of finding best deals regarding mobile plans!!!

@Yummy

I'm pretty much in the same boat as @Anonymous . I switched my late partners number/smartphone to pm first. Then I switched my number/flip phone over on the RBC promo and swapped the sim cards between phones for a month and switched my late partners number down to the $10 plan just before it was grandfathered. Once my $10 off/6 months promo ended I switched to the $15 plan. I put both sim cards in my A320 until I bought my moto g7+ then I put my sim card in that phone.

Then last Xmas I couldn't resist the promo offered and activated a "data" plan mostly for the bf to use if needed. That one I activated on the Quebec plan ($30/2.5gb) w/5gb bonus+2gb holiday data add on and the 500 international minutes. With the free month credit and referral bonus and a London drugs account credit my next reactivation is the first one I have to pay for since activation. The extra bonus is that account has the data glitch of full speed 4G data so I am reluctant to change to the $15 plan.

The advantage to having in my case the $10 and $15 plans instead of just the $25 is twice the rewards (autopay and loyalty will eventually be 2×$7=$14 discount on $25) and twice the free gifts from pm.

Here's a list of all phone models which support all 3G/4G Telus (and Bell, Rogers, Shaw) radio frequencies/bands and which have dual-SIM slots.

https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?s3G5s=HSDPA850,HSDPA1900&s4Gs=2,4,5,7,12,13,17,29,66,71&sNumbe...

This list is mostly the latest and greatest versions of iPhones and Galaxies, of course.

But there's also some good devices on the list which aren't overpriced fashion items - the OnePlus and Moto G families are good choices with a variety of models to fit every price range.

Another option is to simply buy an "unlocked" phone from London Drugs, Staples, Walmart, etc. Be sure to confirm it has radio compatibility with whatever network(s) you'll populate into the second SIM slot.

Beware that most dual-SIM phones are "passive" or "inactive" - that is, only one of the two SIM cards can actually be active at any given time (you switch between them with software and/or device restart).

If you need both SIM cards (phone numbers and services) active simultaneously then you'll need to choose an "active" dual-SIM phone - and the added cost tends to work out almost as much as just buying a pair of cheaper phones.

If you buy a phone online - especially if it comes from eBay or Alibaba - then you must examine the model/submodel/variant carefully. It might be intended for a foreign market (Europe, India, China, whatever) and not work in Canada (radio-incompatible or software-/firmware-lockout, etc). Indeed, it might not even have an operating system and UI written in a language you can read.

One of them is really close to my dad's place. We'll go check it out. Thanks for all the info!

My family members collectively using 4x $10, 3x $15 and 1x $40 plans.

About 2.5 years ago, members were loading-up with $10 plans by self-referring themselves for $10 plan just to get 2x $25 referral credits. The new SIMs with $27 available fund were perfect to be used as US roaming SIM.

Back then, PM plans were virtually "sell by itself" and was easy to earn the one time $25 credit.

 @Yummy : I've collected lots of minutes and data across 3 accounts. I'm not starving for those features. The data is also full 4G. I couldn't resist a promo a couple years ago for 5GB of one time data. The terms didn't stipulate that a plan change would lose it. So I signed up for a $25 plan and promptly changed it down to the $10 plan for the next renewal. I actually still have some of that original bucket what with all the gifts.

The 3rd account was more for exploring the "glitches" with the $15 plan. Then they said they were removing the $10 plan so I switched to it. I call that my dormant account. I renew it every ~4 months. I Suspend my data account and use the dormant account as my data account for the term. Then it suspends for lack of payment and I Resume my primary data account.

I am just curious what is an idea of having two PM accounts for one user (in one phone)? $10 plan is grandfathered plan with not much talk nor data. Would not be better to have one $25?

I got my Samsung A31 from a little "mom-n-pop" in Richmond BC called easycellular.ca. They do mail order. It was a good experience. It's an international version for the UAE market.

 @sbs260 : gsmarena has a very good feature search that you can narrow down phones with features that you want.

@sbs260

Swiftronics has three locations in downtown Toronto, Mississauga and Don Mills. If you are buying a brand new phone check your credit card for device protection insurance. Visa Avion Infinite has it.

Swiftronics is in Toronto so that may be your best. The A31 is a decent price.

@sbs260   the old SIM from China would work here?  or you meant via Roaming/

if you are from China, it's cheaper and easier to get the dual sim phone from there.  Cheaper, more selection.

It's for my dad. He needs a smartphone for both his old SIM card from China and a local Canadian SIM. He doesn't really care about brand or price (but preferably not too expensive). We're both in Toronto unfortunately.

@sbs260

B&H photo has some phones that are dual sim as does swiftronics. If you are in the Vancouver area Foreign Electronics has a selection of about 7 or so phones that it sells that are dual sim international versions of phones compatible with Canadian providers. I bought my Samsung Galaxy A320 from them. What phones are you interested in and what's your budget?

IIRC, @Anonymous is using a dual SIM Samsung A-series phone with PM service.

Update: @Anonymous has a Samsung A31 dual SIM phone.

No, PM does not sell dual SIM phones

In fact, all American version of phones are not dual SIMs and so you won't get it from any carrier.

You have to go to local  mobile shops or online like Amazon to buy international versions of phones to get dual SIMs.  However, since dual SIMs phones are not made for North American, while they will work here, they likely miss some bands and hence the reception mightbe worse than North American version of the same phone.

@sbs260 , there's really no phone intended for the Canadian market that has dual physical SIM.  The phones with dual SIM are international models.  That said there are a few models with e-SIM for SIM 2.  Public Mobile does not support e-SIM unfortunately.
